My wife and I are empty-nesters now and are looking for a quality golden retriever puppy. We had a Weimaraner that passed away a couple of years ago.

Any breeder recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Jason- Dogwood Springs in East TX. We have a Golden from them and will buy another. Beautiful, well tempered line. I know many many families that have Goldens from Dogwood. We live in Houston and well worth the drive to breeder outside Tyler.

I heard those only retrieve agitation and condescending looks.

I've adopted 4 dogs and gotten 3 from breeder. The best 4 dogs I've had are the adopted four. The 3 from breeder all were less healthy and not as good. Those 3 were a golden, a lab and a Havanese. The lab is great as most are but still not as good as the three adopted.

I;ve picked up dogs and taken in others without pedigree, much to my chagrin. I use an online dating service now.

We've adopted 2 rescues. The first time we did it, the Rescue Org told us 'you will never have a dog that appreciates you and listens to you more than a rescue.'

Has been totally spot on.

We'll never go back to a breeder.

Yes. Totally agree. Look through specific breed rescues for North Texas.
