Time to rip up 35 again from the south loop to 17th/18th street beginning in February. Estimated to be completed in early 2029.
- Adding a lane on both sides
-Taking out the flyover at Valley Mills and putting in a diamond overpass… (I think this is a mistake and will be a nightmare with the circle.)
-Reconstructing all underpasses/overpasses and feeder roads.

Also, the twin bridges reconstruction over Lake Waco to begin in the summer and will add a lane on both sides.

Behind a paywall…

Finally, a developer is going to put a new 2,000 home development (west side of the lake) near Speegleville Rd with the City of Waco finally putting infrastructure out there. I expect that area on the lake to develop quickly.

Happy for the investment, but tired of the non-stop construction.

Thanks for posting that.

In spite of suggestions given to TxDOT and MPO that East Loop 340 be finished (currently only 2-lane with no service roads) prior to starting the south-side I-35 reconstruction, the I-35 project found funding early and that's all that mattered to them, I suppose.

If you want a 'fun' time, wait for the construction to begin and then, on a Friday afternoon, decide to take Loop 340 around Waco to avoid the backups. The joke, I'm afraid, will be on you. You might want to pack a box lunch and a case of Depends.

According to the article, traffic from Hwy 6 going Northbound on 35 will still have to cross through New Rd. They're simply adding more lanes to the service road.

The lack of utility/sewers on the Speegleville side is what has stunted the idea of a second Midway HS. Once those floodgates actually open and that area can be developed, will be interesting to see how MISD evolves.

Was it that or was it the "optics" of what one school's make-up versus that of the others would look like and how it would be perceived?

I'm sure no matter how Midway expands, it will eventually come down to essentially a Hewitt HS and a Woodway HS. Much like the construction of River Valley, it will spur plenty of "optics" conversations.

Where in the world is that coming from? Did you make that up?

I thought Midway wanted to remain 6a hence the real reason no splitting it up as of yet.

Looks like a miniature version of the 4 Prosper High Schools and missing the new stadium.

The rendering is the joke of what would be "Woodway high" compared to " Hewitt high". Economic disparity has been the #1 topic in Midway as a roadblock to building another high school. 6a, 5a has nothing to do with it as the Frisco model is awesome.

I hate to hear we are losing a flyover in favor of a diamond. Cannot stand that configuration.

removing the flyover is going to be a mistake txdot will regret.

One of the big changes with the removal of the overpass is the extra light that it will take to go northbound on I-35. That may be the only maneuver at this intersection that will take longer on average. The bypass ramps are nice so people on both sides of the frontage roads can continue straight without entering the diamond interchange (DI).
My largest concern is the DI and traffic circle point of conversion. Depending on the density of traffic, it may be hard for cars to enter the circle coming from Valley Mills since they have to wait for cars to actually pass them to enter.
I'd like to see TxDOT's traffic simulation to see the whole thing in motion.

Yeah, people cant drive through the traffic circle as is, adding this awkward interchange leading right into it will make it even worse.

As an educator and married to a former Midway educator and as the parent of a son who thrived there academically, athletically, and socially and had an incredible group of highly accomplished friends, I can tell you cannot be more wrong. No school is perfect, but it is one of the top public schools in the state.

You are correct. There will not be a 2nd MHS anytime soon.
