I thought this was a joke and had to drive by during lunch... Is that the same name as the one that was in the shopping center to the right many years back?
China Star has been elsewhere in town, but I can't remember where. Summer Palace was the one across VM in the old Luby's space.

Years and years ago it was Ly-Le. I think that's the same family that now has Clay Pot downtown.

God that makes me so sad. Fudruckers was one of the few places left from when I was in high school in Waco. Many memories there.

Yeah we know the family and not a restaurant Waco needs to lose and just in general some good people involved. I don't know any deeper details.

It's about another local Mexican joint in town losing its owner.

Did you think posts about Fuddruckers becoming a Chinese buffet were about Don Carlos? Didn't see you chime in there. Maybe I missed it.

i don't live in Waco nor have ever heard of this food truck. I thought someone earlier in the tread said don Carlos was either relocating or had a food truck or something along those lines.

Not sure what fudruckers has to do with my question tho

Missed opportunity to call it Fuddluckers…
This might be the funniest thing I've ever read on this site and I feel ashamed for laughing so hard.

I apologize, I thought you were getting on to my question as a, "why are you posting this, it has nothing to do with Don Carlos", as opposed to, "hey, does this have something to do with Don Carlos too?"

My fault entirely on the misinterpretation. Spent too much time over in R&P obviously, need to get my head checked

Sergio's is a restaurant in downtown Waco. He also had a food truck set up by dichotomy coffee. Really great food. A friend of mine in the real estate game that works with Spanish speaking clients said that ICE has been rounding up illegals in Waco lately. Didn't know Sergio was an illegal.

Don't know any details either, but I have known Sergio for more than 25 years. His restaurants Siete Mares, El Potosino, then Sergio's have been around that long and before that he cooked on the Brazos Queen. He and his family are good people and we've been regulars at his restaurants since he first opened. It's one thing to listen to news stories about deportations, but it hits differently when it's a friend that is deported.

Most of the people this is being done to are the Sergio's and family. That is what you need to think in terms of.

At one time there was a Chinese buffet in the shopping center behind fudruckers. Like essentially the other side of that building. For some reason I feel like it was called China Star. But that buffet closed probably about 2005 or so.

I drove past the Don Carlos building over the weekend and noticed a sign up that a Sushi place is moving into the spot. So that would indicate to me that it is not a mega Chinese buffet place going in. I could be wrong though.

Here's a detailed story published today about details of Sergio's deportation and his history in Waco. Yes, it's weird that this is in the Don Carlos thread, but that's where the discussion was going on. Thought it was interesting to hear all the history as well as what caused the deportation. He was a good guy. I miss him and his food. https://wacobridge.org/2025/10/06/deportation-ends-dream-for-celebrated-waco-chef-and-family/?_bhlid=49e94e2a66025a95c0748dd2c7cd8e494c94880f

I liked the concept, but their location stunk, and their execution was not great. Too many good places to eat in Waco now for that to survive.

That's interesting. Thanks for posting.

Appears they are serious about deporting people who are here illegally, whether or not there is additional criminal activity.

Tia Juanita's is not in the Don Carlos location, it's in Twin Peaks' old location.

Don Carlos is on the midst of going Asian.

It will be a sushi bar with Waco's second korean bbq in the past year.
