Sad to see another one bite the dust. Maybe they can find a good tenant for that building.

Yes, but I was hoping Pluckers would go downtown by Foster in one of the new restaurants being built on the river.

I had a bug in my beer because they didn't clean their lines... Also I'm pretty sure that building is sinking... I've been meaning to start a list of all the closing restaurants in town.

The problem with most restaurants in Waco (including this one), is that the wait staff is terrible.

It's not very visible from anywhere, and it's not easy to get in and out of there. I think that's a tough location.

I always wanted to like this place, but I thought their food was pretty bad from the get go. Kind of like a Red Lobster version of cajun food.

Same. I wanted to like it, but I liked the concept more than I did the execution. And it was kind of out of sight out of mind, so I just never went unless somebody else brought it up, which was rare.

I went once to the one in Waco. I won't ever voluntarily go to another one. That menu just isn't good and felt overpriced.

I went a 4-5 times and the food was just OK, not outstanding. Billed themselves as a craft beer place and but they were always out of whatever beer I wanted to order. Last time we went my wife said, "let's go see what beer they are out of." Haven't been, maybe in a couple of years. I'd rather go to Crickets.

That is clearly not just a Waco problem. I'm ready for automation to replace as many restaurant/fast food knuckleheads as possible.

That sums it up. Atmosphere, especially TV screens brought in as many people as the food.

I've read where Walk On's as a whole isn't doing well and they're closing more restaurants besides the one in Waco.

As others have said the location isn't easy to get to. I still have not gone to several restaurants out there including Saltgrass.

Yeah, I've tried to like Walk On's, but as others have said, the food is just not that good. And it's slightly overpriced IMO. They have a bunch of beer on tap, but nothing very interesting. For some reason my bride seems to like it, we eat there about twice a month here in CS. She loves the redfish tacos which are pretty good but that's about it for me.

I know restaurants are having problems, especially those that have built since COVID. They bought land and built during some pretty inflated times. A successful operator from Brenham built a pretty nice restaurant called the Varsity Grill right on the Hwy 6 bypass ... he lasted a little over a year. Huge investment, now we have it for sale. Bubbas 33 has just finished a big place also on Hwy 6 ... should be open any day. I'm hopeful they will do well.

You can't be mediocre in the restaurant business with a possible pass in fast food. Walk on's was not real great food with not real great service. You really only need to be good not great in both respects to make it. See George's as an example. I think Bubbas is pretty darn good in both areas and it is typically busy here in Waco whenever I go for lunch.

Consumer tastes have changed quite a bit. A lot more folks seem to want to dine at somewhere local if they are going to dine in. Chains seem to have much more success via drive thru or doordash. The downtown scene with its local spots seems to be thriving or holding its own.

Bubbas is outstanding food. One of my favorite places to hang out in Waco

As others have said the location as it great and the food was not great.

That whole location by the hospital is tough to get in/out of if you aren't used to it and you can spend a lot of time just trying to get to the correct side of 35 or 6 that you need to be on.

Being back off the road doesn't help for non local traffic either making it hard to find.

Too many chains seem to have a problem with their food declining and I think that is partially due to them cutting corners to make everything cheaper and having menus that are too large. Keep it simple and have fewer high quality items.

Also, I have seen recently several things about how people don't do appetizers at many places because they often cost about the same as a main dish but with less food and aren't good quality (see the issue above).

As to walk ons I stopped going after one time when I tried the Cajun quesadillas. Good sausage in it but the thing was way overcooked so that the tortillas was as hard as a chip and fell apart after one bite. It was just so dry that it had to be drenched in sauce just to be able to eat it without it sticking in my mouth. Never went back.
