When I heard that Dyson was behind the hotel, I knew we'd never see it happen anyway.

Waco could have a whole new skyline with all the buildings Dyson has proposed.

I will say I remember particularly the 10-story student housing idea he had for near campus. He had renderings made up and everything.

Well, it's four stories short, but someone is placing a 6-story student housing development at 7th and James.

Wasn't he also the one that proposed a building taller than the Alico for the other side of the river? Another proposal with lots of fanfare that fell through
I don't believe that was him. That was contingent upon an anchor tenant, which was purported to be At&T before it fell through as they decided to spend billions on Time Warner rather than stay in their lane.

I think we may be talking about different projects. The one I was thinking of was just a few years ago. But AT&T and Time Warner was much further back than that (2018).

Edit: I looked it up and the one I was thinking of was 2023 and was called the Brazos Gateway Tower and I did not see anything about it being connected to AT&T but I may have missed it/not found it.

Any project that Dyson was involved with….. My advice would be to run the other direction as fast as I could

Actual dirt work is being done between the Law School and the other side of Foster.

It looks really good just cleaned up.

Do we know what that area is supposed to look like when complete?

Has anyone seen that big floating house boat looking thing on up the river that says "Grant Hotel" one one side of it and like Floating Molecular Particle Lab or something funny on the other side?

The city can be counted on to mismanage just about everything they touch. Upper management is paid way too much and have no accountability. Last I heard, the riverfront project has been shelved again and the are going to use that giant parking garage for storage on the ground floor. They are also planning on locking it down with gates when there are no events scheduled. Drugs are being dealt in the upper floors at late hours.

So true. It happens with all cities but in a smaller city like Waco it seems much bigger when they mismanage something because so many know about it due to small town size, the media coverage and the city itself launching the news through some big announcement.

Failed hotels (Grant Hotel), River front projects- with amazing videos- that nothing ever happens with (I can think of several announcements since about 2002 until work finally started a few years ago, downtown revitalization that never took off Pre-Magnolia, new convention centers, and new city construction around the courthouse/city buildings.

Grant Hotel is not a failed hotel, it was a marketing ploy which I told y'all would never, ever, ever happen.

A ploy to accomplish what?

It was a marketing ploy by a "developer" to rope in investor dollars and never get off the ground. They had to "advertise" the place, so they used a bunch of investor funds to advertise at the football games.

There was never going to be a hotel built. The rest of the money was likely buried up in "developer/contractor/marketer/blueprint" fees, which are all one and the same entity at the end of the day.

So, it was a money bilking ploy.
