Aug 6 - 8: I-35 will be shut down both ways from 12th street to New Road. TxDoT is bringing down the Valley Mills flyover onto I-35.

Traffic is going to brutal with some people estimating hours of delay through Waco.

Drove through the circle today and had a sad... I don't have much faith in the divergent diamond shenanigans but at least they have a bypass lane which should solve my 29 block detour complaint from the Round Rock Ikea debacle.... I'm assuming the same plan minus bypass lane is still planned for estates/hewitt drive?

Haven't been in Waco since it was removed, but it seems like it will make I-35 feel naked.

while that bridge was nice, all you got to do is walk like 2 more blocks down and just walk under 35 at south 5th. Really not much different

Agreed. And now that it has sidewalks it is much safer. Before it didn't have sidewalks underneath so it was not really walkable. Plus it is lit up at night really brightly.

Yeah, but Waco is like the only city I know in Texas that is actually losing freeways, flyovers, and crossovers.

It will be interesting where Waco will fall in the pecking order of Texas cities in 50 years just because it is growing at a much slower rate than the larger metros and those metros closer to the large metros.

Within 15 years Waco will already be the smallest metro in Central Texas in terms of market size and population.

Is it really losing any though if they are just being replaced?

Like 12th Street. It used to go over 35. Now 35 goes over 12th Street. So one bridge was just replaced by another for no real loss in the number of bridges/flyovers.

It gained several in the last 2 decades as well with the one in Hewitt to get on 35 (spring valley I think), and the ones for 6 and 35.

What free way has Waco lost? By continualy expanding 35 waco is actually gaining free way. Not to mention the building up of 340 and 84 in the Western half of the county over the past few decades. Not to mention there is more in store for the intersection of 84 and 340 by the Richland Mall.

I really like Waco and am considering retiring there in the next 6-10 years. I just wish the city had the funds to beautify more areas and re-pave more of the roadways, but I'm guessing the tax base isn't great.
