Bodes well for our elite defense Saturday…Tang was pivotal to Baylor's success

Didn't take Tang long to make a big difference at KSU.

And wasn't he greeted by like 2-3 scholarship players?

2 returning players. Hit the jackpot with Johnson from Florida

He is a magnet for talent and he gets the most out of his players.

We will have to come to score in that game because that offense will eat us up.

Only Big 12 game with more points was Baylor-A&M in 2008 with 5 overtimes.

not surprisingly, coach tang is running a faith-based program with high ethical standards.

he also has brought a lot of talent, not only keyontae johnson (and his story), but uber athletic guys like nae'quan tomlin and olds including ex-arkansas' guard desi sills. couple them with mister new york city running point, markquis nowell, and these cats can hunt.

maybe time and tape will allow coaches like scott drew to adjust tactically. but last night emaw lit up austin. a new meaning for burnt orange.

i know coach tang and coach drew admire one another like blood brothers. so, it will be both fun competition and compelling storylines saturday in waco.

Watch out...the haters on here are gonna tell you to post that crap on the KState board like they told us because a thread was started congratulating Joey McGuire on his good season.

Now that Baylor is 0-3 in conference play, I'm waiting for the "fire Drew because he can't coach" crowd to come out of the woodwork. No doubt some are thinking it even if they are afraid to say it 2 years after a natty.

Some people have already suggested our success in recent years is more because of Tang than Drew.

We have a largely basketball illiterate fanbase. Most Baylor fans care primarily about football, and don't devote much energy to basketball unless we're extraordinarily good, which we have been of late. But many of our fans have a pretty low basketball IQ.

Could not agree more. Starters start losing and they freak out when coach makes a few subs for energy or D. We are not well educated as a bball fan base. Same with most Texas schools save for Cougars.

This is true. And it becomes obvious every time we lose.

Unfortunately, this team is likely going to do a lot more losing before we're done. This league is just too tough. It will chew up a team playing at the level we are currently -- and have for most of the year.

Then enlighten the Low BB IQ folks with what is wrong and what needs to be fixed? We are 0-3 in conference with a relative easy opening conference schedule.

We lack any depth, horrendous defense, sloppy transition play, period of mental lapse and inability to stick with the play settling for poor shot selections...

It might help if George and Thamba knew who they were guarding on inbound plays and not throwing the ball to Lohner when you need a basket to win the game...

BU struggles with executing offensive plays and defensive assignments.

Does anyone know what team, in conference, is playing more freshman minutes that anyone else?
Stefano DiMera

Because if we would clean up the little details that are EASILY fixed ..not guarding the inbounds play..hitting free throws..and not fouling on a desperation three in the corner we'd be 2-1 in conference right now .

All that other stuff y'all complaining about..poor transition D... incorrect switches..Thamba finishing better at rim .are a lot harder..

My point..it is not as hopeless as it's being made out on this board.

Agreed but just like football this year - we need to win some of the close games...I am sure the players are feeling the pressure as well - which doesn't help the situation either....this is when I wish we had a more vocal team leader...

The most painful part of this is that this team can win a lot if we get better at the little things defensively. In the past two games, we've allowed a 30-point performance from one player and made relatively simple defensive mistakes at the wrong moments (letting the leading scorer drive to the rim, giving up open lays from inbounds, not getting in help when teams pull Thamba or Oijianwuna to the perimeter)

The next four games (@WVU, vs OSU, @TTU, @OU) will be the most important in righting the ship. Obviously, no wins are guaranteed, but we can go 3-1 in this stretch.

I'd have more hope if we had shown any ability before now to get in a stance and play competent man defense. But with the exception of a single game here or there, we haven't done that consistently all year.

The mistakes we've seen the last two games are mistakes we've been making since the Norfolk State game in early November.

At this point, I can only conclude that we're bad defensive basketball team. And it's hard seeing guys who are clearly bad individual defenders do enough in the next six to eight weeks to change that in a way that reverses our current fortunes.

You're welcome.
Thank you for the reminder of the verse from Colossians. It is a very fitting verse since Baylor athletes wear a patch on their uniforms citing a fess was versed earlier:

"Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other, as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony." Colossians 3:12-14
