As a test I talked to several friends that are more than casual sports fans but not die hard. None had a clue he was fired or why. They were fully aware of "the 52" and "Briles R word culture" etc

Zero clue about Beard being fired at texas for choking out his fianc.

They had no choice. But they just disappeared him. Quietest high profile women abuse culture firing in history.

It's impressive the coverup and silence

No espn vans on campus for days and days breathlessly anguishing the unsafe culture on the Austin campus. No chanting protesters with signs advocating for women. Nobody "believing all women"

Silence.

Very, very impressive.

I'm sure this story will just die quickly and there will hardly be a mention of it after this season, unlike the Bliss disaster that even today still gets brought up even though it's now been almost 20 years ago.

I also won't be surprised if Beard is eventually deemed to be "rehabilitated" within a few seasons annd allowed to coach in college again - unlike a certain eternal pariah named Briles.

There is a difference between a coach being a piece of sht off the court, and a coach overseeing student athletes and something happening on his watch. They are both bad and could warrant termination, but it's not like he was beating players. He absolutely deserved to be fired, but if you can't see the difference between beating his fianc (again, really bad) and trying to cover up illegal payments to a student athlete that was murdered by another student athlete by trying to say he was a drug dealer (way worse), then maybe you need to have your moral compass calibrated.

UT put him on leave immediately and fired him once they got more information. As far as we know, his actions were completely in his personal home and did not involve any student athletes. I'm not sure how UT could have handled this any better. I hate UT a lot, but this isn't in the same universe as Bliss, and although the Briles story was sensationalized by the media, it still involved student athletes and Briles questionable choices of who he recruited and how he treated accusations when they came up. Neither of those situations are in the same universe as Beard. (Again, I'm going to reiterate so there is no confusion: Beard is a POS and absolutely deserved to be fired)

Put him on indefinite suspension with no pay. Waited long enough to make sure it was going to be a felony and to talk to prosecutors. Talked to key shareholders of UT and announced it during the season.

I don't think it was quiet at all. I doubt they did the best they could to get it out as a Friday press release with ESPN coverage and interviews.

Beard now needs to worry about his own future and the civil lawsuit coming for whatever money he has from his "fiance".

Beard will need to go to rehab, wait a few years and he might be able to coach again, but I doubt it. Like Briles, there is probably no AD or school willing to hire him unless it is a perennial losing program but I don't see it then either.

Maybe he was pointing out there hasn't been relentless, unceasing coverage of an alleged felony assault on a woman by a head coach at a major university.
I saw the initial reports and then notice of his firing. That's it. Over and done. No condemnation of the university or the people who hired him. He/they may be innocent but who cares?

Except he claimed it was a cover up and not reported. You read or heard about it, as did I. Somehow Flordas friends didnt.

I hate UT with a passion. When UT and AM used to play i would watch hoping an earthquake swallows them both.

As someone else explained, UT immediately suspended the coach, and as soon as the charges came out, fired him. The story had nothing to do with UT campus or students. Baylors situation was mishandled from the git go and we are still paying the price. thats on our BOR not the press.

Again, I think I was pretty clear. I talked with several friends that are more than casual colleague sports fans (more football than basketball) and they weren't aware of his firing.

They probably don't tune into woke espn on the daily. Likely don't watch sports center. But they by and large know how baylor is doing, the cowboys, bigger news items for sports etc.

Beard was erased without Brandy Tracy holding a vigil and hundreds or thousands of hey hey ho hos chanting day and night in front of espn satellite vans about the unsafe environment for female students (and male) by having employed chris beard.

It was impressive. The most quiet firing likely ever of an elite head coach of a top 5 program that recently coached for a national champions. Probably ever.

I said in my second post "impressive tue coverup akd silence" so fair to say that.

Obviously they didn't cover up that it occurred, the coverup was the things I mentioned in my post just before this. None of that happened or was covered(up) which is shocking especially when any white man hehaves in this most violent, patriarchal way towards a woman. Think of all the men he's led and the example he's set for them that women don't matter and are to be handled violently if they get out of line.

That's what I was suggesting was impressively covered up. I could have been more clear but think my first post was crystal

Every news agency covered Coach Beard's romp and later firing but 4 of the formally living in florida poster's friends who are average spots fans but dont watch or read sports news. I warned you its complicated. Its also funny and nbd. I am much more concerned about the mentions of boobs.

First of all, it's basketball not football. So it's not going to get as much attention anyway, especially in Texas. Second, it's the HC, one man, not several members of the team, players. Third, the administration did not throw fuel on the fire by saying stupid things and adding to the accusations, often just as baseless & ludicrous as what the Austin media invented. Fourth, it happened at his home, probably nowhere near campus. Last, it's Texas, a blue blood with tons of money. If I'm not mistaken, they still have the largest endowment of any university in the country. All that oil money (& super rich BMD's can do all kinds of things to cover something up.
