Wow, Sean Miller surprised me. I knew he had a great run at Xavier, but didn't realize he had than many wins.

This is a good point. Now that we're getting further up the list, it's probably a good idea to start giving the gentlemen Coach Drew passes their flowers. I'll start doing a mini bio for these retired coaches as we pass them.Task Force 2015 said:Mitch Henessey said:
With last night's victory over Washington, Scott Drew sits at 86th all-time in career victories. He passed Pat Kennedy, who had several coaching stops over his career (spanning from 1980-2011), but had his longest tenure at Florida State in the 80s and 90s, predating Leonard Hamilton.
Drew is now tied with Thad Matta, Sean Miller, and Abe Lemons at 488 wins.
I think it is safe to assume that he will soon pass my friend the late Abe Lemons.I wish Abe was still with us so he could share humorous observations about the current state of college-pro basketball.

16 more years @ 25 wins a year...that put him over 800 wins. We have been blessed...

Guys, Drew fails to coach basic BB fundamentals.
1. ( He's accomplished nothing without McCaslin and/or Tang as asst coaches)
2. He does not coach and Totally ignores any semblance of a strong inside game from a scoring, rebounding and ball movement standpoint.
3. His 3 man weave O from the 3 point line is easy to defend and coach against, and produces few open looks.
4. His team D is annually ineffective since Davion and the Great Team.
5. His O of jacking 3's and driving will never be a winning scheme.
6. '21 was an aberration that will never be repeated. Those players led by Mitchell were once in a lifetime for Baylor.
7. Drew's best hope is to get Tang back. Period.

I'm not a huge basketball strategy / Xs and Os guy. That said, at a high level it looks entirely possible (and, more than that, pretty likely) that Drew's technical and disciplinary/grit deficiencies were filled by Tang/McCaslin and potentially also just the particular personnel we had on that team in 20-21-22. Those were some real dawgs.
I think Drew is 1-4 vs Tang since Tang left. McCaslin just beat us like we stole something. (I note Tang just brought Matt Driscoll back over from North Florida, which is interesting.)
Our defense sucks. We aren't even competitive against high level Big 12 teams. And TCU (not a high level Big 12 team) took our lunch money up in Fort Worth. The trend and results are now pretty darn clear.
Talk of firing Drew is absurd. He has a job for life here.
But, if we want results to improve, Drew and McNamee are going to have to get realistic about what is going on with our program and make some major changes to remedy it. Probably requires GM and staff changes. We can't turn over our whole damn roster every year, and we have to learn to play defense, for two pretty basic points.

No one ever has a job for life. That was just proven with Mike Gundy at Oklahoma State and could be proven in the coming years with Dabo Swinney at Clemson.
Even legends have performance standards, and if they consistently fail to meet those, it's time to move on. We're a couple of years away from that, but this season is several notches below any reasonable performance standards for our program. And it shouldn't be accepted or downplayed as anything but that.
This year's talent level and performance is unacceptable for Baylor men's basketball. And if things don't change in the next couple of years, it will be time for some difficult conversations and decisions.
