I don't know that I agree it was BS or bogus. Their assistant got caught on wiretap on the FBI corruption investigation involving shoe companies and agents like Christian Dawkins. There was no doubt the assistant was guilty and he served time in federal prison for it.

The thing that can be characterized as BS or bogus is the fact that they were the only 1 of 4 schools caught (hey Kansas, I'm looking at you) that was punished severely for it, which included the post-season ban. The others essentially skated free for the most part. From a fairness perspective relative to the other 3 schools and to the fact the shoe game has always been a dirty underworld of which has funneled recruits and money to a lot of top schools, it didn't make a lot of sense. But, they did indeed violate the rules. That may have been what others were saying in the thread too and I just misinterpreted.

Bogus was probably a poor choice of words. My point is that the NCAA punished the Pokes far too harshly. As you noted, other teams with similar infractions were treated more leniently.

The real point, as I understand it, is that the team was punished for something that happened several years ago, that OSU had already dealt with well, & that none of the current players or staff were around at the time. It's almost always wrong to punish someone for what somebody else did.

It may not be fair but while getting rid of the transgressors may mitigate the punishment a school receives, the NCAA penalizes the institution which remains vicariously liable for the actions of its former staff members, players and boosters.
