North Texas won over CUSA member UAB in the NIT final

Truly incredible, and I didn't even know about Charlotte.

And all 4 of those schools are LEAVING CUSA next season

AAC basketball will be getting a nice boost next year with the CUSA additions. They'll lose their flag bearer in Houston, but they'll gain several programs on the rise in FAU, UNT and UAB.

UAB has been solid for a while, and UNT should continue on a positive trajectory with the promotion of Ross Hodge. And with Dusty May expected to sign an extension with FAU after the season, that program has the potential to become something special.

I saw something about how the schools leaving are losing money because the bonus money from the tournament (field of 64) doesn't get paid out until after they leave.

They'll make more in TV money in the long run, though. The new CUSA TV deal signed in 2022 paid each member less than $1 million a year. The current AAC deal, which runs through 2032, pays each member $7 million annually.

And the AAC will give their basketball programs more exposure and a higher likelihood of reaching the tournament in coming years as well.
