Early observations:

1) Grady Dick's suit ...ouch

2) saw John Jaikus in Keyonte's entourage.

Anybody know what Isiah Austin was doing there? They showed him with Anthony Black as Black was walking up the stage.

Why was Terry Black not there?

Isiah works in NBA headquarters in New York.

Terry was there.. saw him at beginning of show.. only brother and Mom came to couch for ESPN interview.

Perfect landing spot, will replace Jordan Clarkson as Utah 6th man. Clarkson was my pre-draft comp for Keyonte, a microwave bench scorer where shot selection and defense won't matter as much.

Mavs got rid of a nasty contract of Davis Bertrans and their number 10 pick for the 12 pick and select Duke frosh and rim protector Dereck Lively

https://www.mavsmoneyball.com/2023/6/22/23770742/dallas-mavericks-select-dereck-lively-2023-nba-draft-trading-down-dump-davis-bertans

Mavs also get a trade exception equal to Bertans' $17 million salary for the 2023-24 season, which they can use to acquire a player of equal or lesser value at any point over the next calendar year.

They'll now be approximately $74MM under to projected luxury tax line, which will help them make other moves, such as re-signing Kyrie Irving.

The TPE will allow them to absorb a veteran contract. The Mavs may not waste any time utilizing it. They are active in the trade marketplace, seeking to acquire a player and a current or future pick

Dallas will still be over the projected $136MM salary cap due to Irving's cap hold, Bobby Marks of ESPN notes (Twitter link).

The Kings will trade center Richaun Holmes and the 24th pick to the Mavericks, tweets ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Marquette's Olivier-Maxence Prosper was the selection at No. 24.

Holmes is under contract for 2023/24 at $12MM and hold a $12.8MM player option for the following season. Dallas will acquire him with the Traded Player Exception it created earlier in the night by sending Davis Bertans to Oklahoma City

The Kings' return in the deal is not yet known, but it will likely be minimal, since Holmes is considered a salary dump.

Utah has been very BU friendly over the years with Epke Udoh, Royce O'Neal, Jared Butler, and now Keyonte all having spent time there. They also signed Macio Teague...although he never made it to the team.

Not sure if I missed anyone. Guess it's the Dennis Lindsey pipeline.

Yep...hated to see Dennis leave during the purge when that young dot.com billionaire and Dwayne Wade bought the team.

I love this. Miles' ability to get to and score at the rim is unique and will translate at any level. If he can develop his jump shot a little, I think he can stick in the NBA.

On Mavs Draft;
(ESPN's Kevin Pelton - Grade: B): "I liked Dallas' pair of interlocking trades that picked up two first-round selections and center Richaun Holmes, while also moving to trade the 10th pick and Davis Bertans to Oklahoma City. As for the picks themselves, Lively seems like strong value and fit. I'm less of a believer in Prosper, who generated few assists or blocks at the NCAA level and ranked 60th in my projections."

(The Associated Press' Tim Reynolds - Grade: Excellent): "Dallas got the big man it wanted and created opportunity by moving Davis Bertans. Hard to argue that it wasn't a good night. And now free agency awaits. Prosper is another player with big potential and was extremely hard to guard at Marquette."

(Yahoo Sports' Krysten Peek - Grade: A): "After Wembanyama, Lively is the best rim protector in this draft class. He showed a much improved 3-point shot during the pre-draft process and workouts with teams. Lively was the No. 1 recruit coming out of high school but couldn't find his rhythm after a minor injury to start the season. The NBA's spacing and pace cater to his skills, and his most immediate impact will be at the defensive end with his 7-2 frame."

(USA Today's Charles Curtis - Grade: A): "This grade also includes the fact they were able to trade Davis Bertans' contract. Two great picks and you've got our first A grade."

(CBS Sports' Colin Ward-Henninger - Grade: A): "The Mavericks were successful on two fronts, shedding the burdensome contract of Davis Bertans while still securing two well-fitting prospects full of upside. Lively is a rim-running, shot-blocking big in the mold of Tyson Chandler, while Prosper shot up draft boards due to his athleticism, length and versatility on the defensive end. Both address needs and the Mavs saved some money in the process."

(Sporting News' Kyle Irving - Grade: A+): "The Mavericks absolutely nailed the 2023 NBA Draft. Dallas traded down to No. 12 and shed Davis Bertans' contract while still landing the prospect it wanted in Lively. The Duke center is the type of defensive anchor and lob threat who will thrive next to Luka Doncic. Then, the Mavericks traded into the late first round to select Prosper, an energetic and versatile wing who has shown promise as a perimeter shooter another prospect who will fit seamlessly alongside Doncic."
