I'll go on record now, Houston doesn't finish in the top 3. This isn't the AAC anymore and they aren't going to be nearly as salty defensively as they have in years past

I'm just not seeing it. I look at Houston's roster and it's just not that talented and not that versatile.

I think this is a full endorsement of Sampson and his ability to mold his team. I agree with that. But this is the Weakest defensive roster in a long time going into a higher level of comp.

If LJ somehow morphs into a decent defender scrap everything I said

It's a small group too and the forwards are not very skilled. I'm interested to watch it play out . Every team in the conference can bang physically so Sampson won't be able to overwhelm everyone with D and crashing the boards

I'm not sold on Texas either. They lost a ton of senior leadership in Carr, Allen, and the NM St kid whose name is slipping me

While we are at it, what am I missing with Kansas. They lost some big time players and filling those spots with guys who I don't think are as good as last. year.

I think we got better at every position except possibly shooting guard and that remains to be seen. We might have taken a step backward in scoring but forward in defense.

When we play Houston we need to isolate LJ and go right at him. There are at least 3 guards on our team he can't guard one-on-one if not more.

Hunter Dickinson is the real deal. He will be a gigantic upgrade inside for them

The cows are always better before they play a game.

I think this is possible. They are small at guard and I think the Oral Roberts transfer is overhyped a bit. Think they are probably slightly better than Hou but am not wildly high on them. Their forwards will be decent. Big 12 is deep but top end is softer than recent years unless Bu comes together quickly.

Ku has two returners who are solid proven high level contributors. Not all Americans but high level seasoned guys. With the size they have coming in they will be tough. Self for all their off the court drama is a very good coach. Consensus #1 is a little much I agree but #1 in the big 12 makes sense.

We are long and athletic at guard. It's a bad matchup for Lj and co.

Most of these previews also discount Jon. If he comes back near 80-85% he will body most teams in this league including Hou and Tex. It makes this team at worst top 2. Lofty hope but possible. He imposed his will physically in the first final four game.

I'm higher on TCU than I am Tx or Hou. Which probably means they'll crap the bed and finish like 8th. But on paper they have a deep talented team. Super athletic again. The issue they'll have again is 3pt shooting. That and replacing one their best players ever in Miles

Plus with his 3ball it'll be like LJ never left

I think I agree. That was my initial reaction too after the portal settled. I don't really understand some of these projections. I like Tcu's guards and transfers better than Tex or Hou. The roster just looks better and more complimentary than Hou and maybe Texas. They have a wide range with high upside as does Bu.

Now they don't have experience being near the top of the standings so that reduces my confidence in them. No doubt they have potential though. Will be interesting how they deal with losing Miles.

The loss of Baugh will hurt a ton as well. He was really underrated imo.
