This fanbase grossly underestimated MSU based on their record. And per usual grossly overrated the Bears for beating no one of note

Auburn is a good team.Florida is solid. There was nothing to show this was going to be the result

Regroup at halftime. Football was down 28 to UCF and snagged a win. Time for Drew and the boys to step up

I don't know of a fanbase worse at this exact thing than we are. If a great program like Mich State loses some games to the likes of Arizona, they must be trash. They aren't but our fanbase just can't help it.

Yup I stated that in another thread. MSU is a really good team who was playing really poor. They've also played a way tougher schedule to date than us.

When I checked my ESPN app, I was shocked. Did the Bears expect an easy win and came overconfident? I just don't get it. If they don't lead a monster comeback, I hope they take this loss to heart and remember they have to play even harder to have a chance to win the NCAA.

I think Baylor came out and got punched in the mouth and didn't respond to it at all.

We were shell-shocked and couldn't snap out of it until halftime.

We never snapped out of it.

We played them even in the second half. That's not a consolation, but it wasn't like the first half, when we were struggling just to get shots off.

In the first half, we didn't look like we even belonged on the same court as them. The second half, while still sloppy, didn't look utterly incompetent.

Hope this team not falling back into that "big first half hole" as we've seen in past seasons. Or was that football?

It all depends on how the team responds. If they learn from this it could be the only loss until we go to Lawrence and we could end the season with no more than 8 or 9 losses. Even @ Kansas is not a guaranteed loss (although maybe pretty close).

We should have expected MSU to play hard: it's almost a hind game for them, the probably wanted some payback for what we did to them last year, we have a bullseye because of the natty in 2021, they were ranked earlier in the season, they've played a tougher schedule than us with losses to some solid teams (Arizona, Duke, Nebraska, & Wisconsin), and other reasons. I'm just summing up what others have said plus my own two cents worth.

You have much higher standards than I do, historian. You're thinking this team will go 9-0 in the Big 12 before they play Kansas in Lawrence on Feb 10th? Hell, I'll be more than ecstatic if we make it through those first 9 games with a 6-3 record.

I still think that it is possible to go 9-0 to start Big 12 play although after today, we will probably drop at least 1-2 before Lawrence. The first half of our 2025 schedule is favorable. It's the tail end that's going to be killer. Maybe I am too optimistic.

But you must admit you are one of the glass half empty posters on here. You may call that being a realist, but you tend to veer toward "we're probably gonna lose this game" mode about most games.

I don't personally think a national champion loses games by 20+ points, but I've seen crazier things happen this season alone with highly regarded teams.

In the transfer portal era, you're going to see more volatility in all sports because you're rebuilding larger chunks of your roster every year. There's just not the continuity there was in the past.

We're already seeing that in basketball with all of the upsets. And there were more close calls for the playoff teams this year in football than there have been in the past. It's just harder to build to truly elite teams with all this turnover.

No disagreement with that. But, then again, I'd say that for every team in the conference right now. This conference is too deep for ANY team to go 9-0 through their first 9 conference games this year. There's my prediction. Let's sit back and see if I'm on the mark or not.

The most interesting trend I'm seeing from the transfer portal is that very few good teams, including us, have much of a bench and therefore are much more reliant on production from starters than in the past due to lack of true depth. Arizona, Purdue, Kansas, Baylor, Gonzaga and Creighton, just from this week's Top 10 all have gotten more than 80% of their scoring from their starting five in games against P6 opponents.
