Listening to Drew's postgame interview with Pat and J Mo last night he essentially said:

"8:00 game on a Tuesday at Ferrell would have been played in front of about 5K.Tonight it was packed, loud and helped push our guys down the stretch."

THAT is why we went small w Foster and it was the right decision IMO. Yes, the view sucks but that doesn't impact a home court advantage.

Added to that, maybe we actually start to get calls at home! Long time coming.

The energy last night impacted the game, no doubt. It was very loud in there. CSD even got on the mic afterwards and thanked the crowd.

And it will be even better for a marquee game when classes are in session.

On another thread, someone suggested that the camera angles would hinder recruiting because players wouldn't come to Baylor because not as many people would watch the games on TV.

I mean....huh?

Thr arena has nothing to with the calls, I am amazed by all the people who have never been in that environment officiating think they actually know what's going on. You simply call the game regardless of crowd, most of the time you are focused so much you can't even hear it. Perspective is all that can chage a man's opinion and if you have not had actual experience in doing their job you can't have a objective perspective , much less an educated opinion.

This may be one of the worst takes of the year so far - and there is already a lot of competition. I believe that you want to believe what you stated is true, but it is a far cry from reality. Referees are human - at least most of them - and are definitely impacted by the surroundings.

You would have to suspend reality to believe that KU doesn't get an incredibly friendly whistle at Phog - EVERY game. (See TCU @ KU last Saturday for the most recent example).

CST -- I'm not following your point here. When you say "view" are you talking views inside the arena or are you talking camera angles. Camera angles don't have anything to do with home court advantage. It's a fixable problem that, from my understanding after speaking with someone in the athletic department, is on the planning board to be addressed. If you mean someone's view may be blocked inside the arena, then that's different.

Yeah, my bad. Simply meant the camera view. I imagine and hear the views from all seats are great.

I'm sure the camera view is a fixable problem and they'll address it. I'm willing to have a poor angle on tv for a fantastic home court advantage.

I agree with you for the most part. Fans tend to think they can influence a ref to a much, much greater extent than they ever could. First of all, never seen or heard of a ref changing a call because they were getting it from the crowd or a coach. Refs are human and sometimes a smart coach can get his message across, or a crowd showing outrage at a replay might cause them to consider they may have missed that one. Most coach yelling at refs is for his players, to show he has their back. Crowd response is helpful in that way also.

No current or former official will ever admit to being influenced by a homecourt advantage. But to deny it is to ignore human psychology.

I understand the indignation to a degree because it's not a conscious decision these refs make to favor one team or another. These things happen subconsciously. But they definitely happen. And it's quantifiable in many cases.

It was still about 5k in attendance…smoke and mirrors.

That's the intel I have as well…5k. I think 4,800 was the number I heard.

In yet another thread, actually had a poster griping about not being able to tell players apart because they couldn't see their faces (???) -- and was completely oblivious to the fact that the reason players wear numbers is so that fans can readily identify them!

You can't make this stuff up ...
What is, is.

Not to the tune of 2500 plus empties - that'd be one-third of the arena empty and that was simply not the case. Most of the empties filled up shortly after tipoff (many BYU fans at the top of the arena).

Regarding empty seats…..what if an individual gets sick the day of the game. They don't sell their ticket or give it away. They are just sick and lay in their bed sick. Their seat at the game is empty. Someone sees the seat empty, along with others in the arena, and labels that a bunch of empties. But is it a bad thing??? There are reasons the seat is empty. Not all the reasons are bad. What if the person had to go out of town/out of state on last minute business?? Lots of reasons for empty seats….

Now from the pic you can see there aren't a lot of empty seats but if there is on a different day it's not always a bad thing.
