Another one-year transfer.

We are on a treadmill we can't seem to get off of. And it doesn't look like those building our rosters and developing our teams even care to.

As a longtime Baylor basketball fan, it's getting harder and harder to invest every year.

I don't take the heights we've reached or the expectation levels Scott Drew has created for granted. He deserves 100 percent of the credit for those things. But his teams are no longer particularly fun to follow.

Yeah i just don't understand it…. With Langston now leaving we literally have 2 guys who produced returning… one of which is coming off a big time injury. I don't understand the thought process of continuing to target rentals over roster contingency.

you have to have a mix. norchad was good. i know the others were bad but u can't just say "im taking no 1 year guys" because it didn't work out one time

This is following the exact same blueprint that has given us the frustrating, deeply flawed teams we've had the past three years.

I agree you need a mix. Scott Drew clearly doesn't. He's recruiting exactly the same way he has the past four years and targeting exactly the same kinds of players in the same quantities.

He has way more faith in our staff's ability to turn team of mercenaries into a cohesive unit capable making deep runs in March than I do. And unfortunately, history is on my side.

We keep doing the exact same things expecting different results.

Get ready, sounds like the Wyoming guard with 1 year to play is coming here. I agree we need to also target undervalued multi year transfers

I'm ready. I have no illusions about what we're doing. When we finish fifth in the Big 12 and lose in the round of 32 again next year, I'll be the least surprised poster on this board.

There's been I believe 3 guys brought up so far that Bu has reached out too. All 3 are 1 year rentals. At some point you gotta look in the mirror and see that what's being done isn't working. Unless of course the goal is simply to make the NCAAS. All CSD would need to do is look at the rosters of the S16 teams. Pretty common theme among them.
This recruiting strategy just doesn't work. And there's plenty of evidence to support that. I'm fine with the 1 n done recruits Drew is obsessed with as long as the transfers are multiple year guys. Otherwise is just a repeat of the same flawed rosters

Obi Agbim, I assume. Very good guard.

But so was RayJ Dennis.

It's not the players. It's the lack of time to build any sort of chemistry or cohesiveness.

Candidly we'll need one guy like this next year, but I will be EXTREMELY disappointed if we have 3 starters who are 1 year players again. (a one and done and two transfers)

It means we'll have been shooting for 4 or 5 in the portal and whiffed on 2 or 3 and end up with more Celistines and Nunns

This is nonsense.

Tech's three best players -- JT Toppin (New Mexico), Darrion Williams (Nevada) and Chance McMillian (Grand Canyon) all came from mid-major programs.

Iowa State, which would likely have been a Sweet 16 team without injuries, got Curtis Jones from Buffalo, Joshua Jefferson from Saint Mary's and Keshon Gilbert from UNLV.

Many of the best players on the best teams in the country came from the mid-major ranks. If you don't believe me, just look at the rosters of the teams still playing.

Auburn -- Johni Broome (Morehead State), Chad Baker-Mazara (Duquesne and San Diego State), Denver Jones (Florida International)
Michigan -- Vladislav Goldin (Florida Atlantic), Danny Wolf (Yale)
Ole Miss -- Malik Dia (Belmont), Jaylen Murray (Saint Peter's), Davon Barnes (Texas Southern and Sam Houston)
Michigan State -- Frankie Filder (Omaha)
Florida -- Walter Clayton (Iona), Alijah Martin (Florida Atlantic), Will Richard (Belmont), Rueben Chinyelu (Washington State), Sam Alexis (Chatanooga)
Maryland -- Ja'Kobi Gillespie (Belmont), Selton Miguel (South Florida), Tafara Gapare (UMass)
Texas Tech -- mentioned above
Arkansas -- Johnell Davis (Florida Atlantic)
Duke -- Sion James (Tulane)
Arizona -- Trey Townsend (Oakland), Anthony Dell'IOrso (Campbell)
BYU -- Dawson Baker (UC-Irvine)
Alabama -- Mark Sears (Ohio), Grant Nelson (North Dakota State), Chris Youngblood (Kennesaw State and South Florida)
Houston -- mostly homegrown rotation
Purdue -- completely homegrown rotation
Kentucky -- Koby Brea (Dayton), Amari Williams (Drexel), Andrew Carr (Delaware), Lamont Butler (San Diego State), Ansley Almonor (Farleigh Dickinson)
Tennessee -- Chaz Lanier (North Florida), Jordan Gainey (South Carolina Upstate), Igor Milicic (Charlotte)

And locally, I'll take Adam Flagler and RayJ Dennis over Jeremy Roach 100 times out of 100.

Talent is talent and it can be found all over. This is true in all sports, but it's especially true in basketball.

You do understand you just described a successful season.

I attended games when Harry Miller (super nice guy) went 0-17 in conference play. I attended games Drew's first year with 7 or 8 hodgepodge players on the roster (no quick fix transfer portal back then). I even attended the famous TAKE A KNEE game Kevin coached. You seem young and privileged.

I grew up watching Baylor games when Darrel Johnson was our coach. I ain't that young.

But we just had someone in another thread today describe Scott Drew's Baylor program as a "top-10 program." You can't tout yourself as that and then make excuses for above-average results -- results that a quarter of our own conference exceeded this season.

This program and its fans tasted elite success from 2020-22. We're not going to be jumping for joy over being a Big 12 also-ran and losing in the first weekend of the NCAA tournament every year.

As I said before, I don't take what we have for granted. I'm thankful for what Scott Drew has built. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't hold standards in line with the potential that this program has shown and the resources that we have committed under Scott Drew.

And beyond that, I'm just tired of watching frustrating, often braindead basketball. The last three years have not been at all fun to watch IMO. I want to get to back to playing good, sound, intense basketball. And until we do, I'm going to be dissatisfied with what we're putting on the floor.

This is what it looks like to be a privileged person. John Calipari couldn't get Kentucky into a sweet 16 from 2019 through 2024 and then left for Arkansas.

Injuries are always a factor and they are out of the coaches control. We were impacted by injuries in 2022, 2023, and 2025.

While the mountain west teams have been bad in the tournament, most of the top transfers from the mountain west have translated really well.

Sometimes it's better to pick up a guy on a positive trajectory than a proven guy plateauing (Roach)

I don't want Baylor to become late-era John Calipari Kentucky. Unfortunately, I fear we're headed in that direction.

That's not privilege. It's just how I see it.

And you can blame injuries and make excuses if it makes you feel better. But poor roster construction and a fatal lack of discipline/defensive intensity are much larger culprits for our underachievement IMO. Sadly, those things are becoming trends in our program.

Either way, I find it weird that you make outlandish predictions all season and then excuses when those predictions (quite predictably) crash and burn. Those of us with a more sober view of our program and its current state are never as surprised as you are when reality slaps us in the face.
BUCANDOIT82
How long do you want to ignore this user?
My "outlandish prediction" was we could beat Duke. We went toe toe with them until Norchad picked up his third foul. Then everything snowballed because ( huge excuse) Josh tore his ACL and Flagg and Proctor didn't and the Refs.

Anyone who says injuries are an excuse is a privileged person who hasn't faced enough adversity in their life to see things the way they really are.
IowaBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That's your outlandish prediction? Far from… you called this a championship caliber team numerous times. You on at least 2 occasions predicted a deep run in March. You make outlandish predictions every single week. You guaranteed like 10 wins half of which ended in beat downs. You may as well just own it.
BUCANDOIT82
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I did say we could make a run, never a championship. The brackets came out and we faced Duke in a home court setting with home court Refs. I know, excuses. Unless you watched the game.

Was the Wright foul a block or a charge in the first half?
IowaBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I leave those up to the paid professionals. And I've openly said the reffing in the NCAAS has been inconsistent this year.

We didn't lose to Duke by 20-plus points because of the officials. We lost because they were way better than we were.

Even when we were hanging with them early, we were having to work twice or three times as hard for every shot as they were on the offensive end. It wasn't sustainable, with or without Norchad in the game.

The game would have stayed closer if Omier hadn't picked up his third foul in the first half. But it would have taken a perfect performance by us to keep that game within 10 points.
