i couldn't believe how bad the Bears were at rebounding. I haven't seen the stats but they could not be very good.
Memphis was so handsie the whole game and though the refs called a fair share of fouls on both teams the Bears were so affected by Memphis' pressure. Not a good showing for a first road test.

A frustration I have is that I thought we had done a good job addressing the height & length issues we had last season, but with Bodo Bodo literally being a no show due to injury and with every other big either being redshirted or also injured - except for Powell - the situation is about the same. Virtually everybody we play in the B12 along with the non-con opponents that have a pulse are going to be taller and longer than us. Not looking forward to more games like Memphis where getting destroyed on the boards alone will be enough to beat us.

I didn't get to watch any of the Memphis game because I was covering a football game, but it sounds like I'm lucky I missed it. From the box score, it looks like we played horribly.

That's a really bad loss and one that likely indicates we're going to be a bubble team at the end of this season. But we'll see. There's plenty of time to improve, but we'll need to because the Big 12 is an absolute minefield this season.

Losing Bodo Bodo and Perez before the season is just really bad luck. There's not really much more to say about that. We're going to have to make do with what we have now, but those were ceiling-limiting injuries because they've reduced our post rotation to one player and our overall rotation to a maximum of seven or eight.

Agreed, this game against Memphis exposed that. If we get a big in mid year as Ashely has suggested as possible our ceiling increases significantly. I think the zone we played Saturday was largely because of having only one true post player.
We could have won that game, and really should have when we were up 8. We got a little loose with the ball and didn't take great shots. I like Tounde, but he can have tunnel vision with taking shots. He gets so focused on scoring that he doesn't get teammates involved. His ability to drive and pull in 2-3 defenders and pass to an open shooter could be his biggest strength but he doesn't look to pass when he scores a couple of times in a row.

We know how this story ends. 7-8 rotation and 1 true big getting gased and then playing smaller line up. Our defense is booboo as it is.i don't know the roster make up very well, but who might carry over to next year?

We've played 8 games, which is now more than 25% of our season. That is a reasonable enough sample to see tendencies that are not likely to change that much for the rest of the season. There may be slight improvements, but wholesale improvements aren't typically seen after this many games unless a new player enters the mix.

There are 6 teams that stand out above everyone else in the Big 12 this season. In no order: Arizona, Iowa St, Tech, Kansas, Houston and BYU. It doesn't mean we can't beat any of them in a 1 game situation because basketball is funny like that. But if we were to play a 3 game series I'd venture to say we'd have a difficult time winning the series against any of those. Realistically, we are in that 7-10 race in the Big 12 with TCU, UC, Oklahoma St, and potentially a couple others I'm probably skipping who will fight for a spot in the tournament. Adding Bodo Bodo would help that position, but it's tough to assess how much improvement when we've never seen him play against Big 12 level talent night-in and out, he's coming off an injury and he's gotta be undoubtedly rusty from not scrimmaging all this time. Having another big body would certainly help though.

Jorkel's question brought me back to my balancing point. There was a post last year that asked if you would be willing to sacrifice 2025-26 to allow Drew to get his roster reset away from 1-and-done (whether frosh or final year transfer) so that we could get back to the point where Drew's teams had continuity, similar to his championship and earlier teams as well as the successful model Tom Izzo follows. I, as well as many who post regularly here in the basketball forum, all said Yes.

And, in my mind, that is what Drew has tried to do. He basically signed a couple of talented projects in Iguodola and Soyoye, who are potentially 4 year guys. He signed multiple year Perez, who from all accounts could have contributed this year but was unfortunately injured. He signed Bodo Bodo who has multiple years, but is unfortunately injured. He signed Williams, who was thought to be a contributor but who has turned into much more. And then, as AP pointed out, Agbim could end up being around more depending on the JUCO rulings. And, the kingpin of all -- Cam Carr was thought to be someone who would have multiple years but then he shocks us all and ends up better than anticipated.

So, I'll consider it a successful season if our sacrifice year means a team that still makes the tournament and can possibly do even better if it adds a player in the 2nd half of the season,

Either or both be back by Tourney?

Projections right now have us in the last group of 4 with tournament byes - so there is a good chance if we don't finish closer to 7th in the league that we do not make the tournament this year. No chance we beat one of those Top 6 you listed unless we shoot lights out - our defense is just not there and we don't have the horses to go toe-toe an entire game.

BU does get all of those top 6 teams at home, except Kansas.
And, they don't have to play road games at BYU, Zona, or Tech.
Need to find a way to win one of those home games against ISU or Houston on Jan 7th or 10th.

Can they go 9-9 in conference?

I ****ing Balled in Basketball so I know my **** and this Baylor team isn't finishing any better than 7th in the league this year and will be fighting to make the play-in game for March Madness. We lack depth, ability to maintain defensive structure for an entire game...that Big12 will grind us.

Against the Group of 6:

Home - Arizona, ISU, TT, Houston and BYU
Away - ISU, Houston and Kansas

That's 8 games, 5 at Home. We will be lucky to get 1 upset.....

$100 bucks we don't finish better than 7th place..
