Izzo is prolly just pissed he didn't come up with this creative way to take advantage of the "Wild West" type rules in the NIL/portal age that currently exists before Drew did.

This reminds me of when Izzo's buddy, Saban, started whining about hurry up offenses and calling on rule changes to put a stop to them.

Until he figured them out, of course, then he ran one.

If we are just paying players now, what difference does it really make as long as the player did not use all his years of eligibility.

This is just more of Rick Barnes' "cross my line" bull*****

Who do these crusty old coaches think they are that everyone else has to check in with them or ask their permission to do completely legal things?

I love when coaches whose careers were heavily built during a period shoe companies funneled top players to about 10 schools (yes, Tom, I'm looking at you) take a sanctimonious approach now that other schools have equal access to players and advantages.

Well, we made the main page on ESPN. So let's see what you do Dougie....Can you leverage the publicity to Baylor's advantage?????

If any of the big state schools or Duke had made this move we would not hear all of this crying and whining

At least that was mentioned.

I absolutely think we would hear it. I think every major coach who didn't do this would cry no matter who did it first.

Does Izzo or Calipari have a recruited player on their roster who does not have an agent who negotiates their NIL deals? Old coaches pining for the 'good old days' and traditions of the game are nothing but dinosaurs trapped in the tar. If you don't follow the trends of the game, you go extinct.

Of course the NCAA shows up a day late with its thumb up its ass.

Baylor made the US Edition Daily Mail Online as well. John Calipari is up in arms. Calipari claims he doesn't care if the player is from Russia, he should not be playing college ball. Then he goes on to state he doesn't blame the coaches, it is the NCAA that is off the tracks. Mark Few at Gonzaga states it is wild out there. He thinks coaches are doing what they think they can get away with. I guess he didn't know the NCAA approved the deal. Purdue coach Matt Painter says "We just want to know the rules so we can abide by them. We don't know what's going on."
I would agree with the sentiments of others on this thread. Scott Drew read the rules and found a way to improve our team. Was NIL used at all? Scott caught all of them asleep at the wheel. Sic'em.

Again, crocodile tears from John Calipari.

Zvonimir Ivisic. Played basketball in the Montenegrin Basketball League, a PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL LEAGUE, where he was PAID from 2020 thru 2023. Declared for the NBA Draft in 2022 and 2023, but withdrew just before the draft. Recruited and signed by JOHN CALIPARI at Kentucky. Played 1st year at Kentucky, then transferred and played for JOHN CALIPARI at Arkansas.

But, no, Calipari "doesn't care if the player is from Russia, he should not be playing college ball." If you go through the draft, THAT is only when someone is a "PROFESSIONAL". Right.

From what I can find Louisville and BYU beat Drew to the punch. Also OU brought in a Russian national team member during the break that is already seeing PT. We know the Russian players are "full-time" employees. Although, their occupation might be listed as military, as it was many years ago.

University of Houston Kelvin Sampson does not blame Baylor coach Scott Drew for bringing on 7-footer James Nnaji, who's already been drafted by the NBA. " I say kudos to Scott Drew and Baylor for knowing about it," Sampson says. ". . . I didn't know about (the rule). But then again I never asked either. And nobody ever told me. But Scott did. And you know what? Good for Scott. If the rule is there, then you should be able to do it. But if the rule is there, let's find a way for everybody to know about it. . .

"Whether it's a good rule or a bad rule. . . Look man, we're paying these guys more money than their parents will make in a lifetime. And you're asking us what we're worried about an eligibility rule mid semester. . . There's no such thing as a surprise anymore."

Kelvin - obviously the rule is there because Drew used it - - it might be that someone on your staff or yourself needs to actually read the rules....

There was and is no unfound rule. Nnaji's situation is a unique one. He was not an NBA player, never declared for the draft, never signed an NBA contract. Technically, Detroit drafted him without his consent.
