Well the crystal ball changed to UNC. Anyone know what happened to us getting him?

Maybe he sees the product on the court and thought "yeah I'm good"

Committed now to UNC. Next!

Guy has been injured all year, with our luck he may have ended up a red shirt anyway...

Who is next tho? I don't see us listed as favorites for anyone at the top or even on a list of teams. Portal roulette?

This one doesn't give me too much heartache. The few times I saw him in action (last year) he looked erratic. He would have been a nice to have, not a must have, and the price he would have come at probably would have meant we had to cut short on other positions and then we're back to where we are now with not enough players. He's not a Darryn Peterson carry the team type player.

I prefer we get a legit PG with experience from the portal. And I do mean a real PG, not a hybrid like we've sometimes tried to stick in that position in the past. I'm all for 5 stars in the other spots, but the floor general needs some experience and this team has now gone consecutive years with no visible leader.

I agree. It sounds counterintuitive but I would like to see us pivot to lower ranked guys. Bring in more athletes like Williams who might be a little raw skill-wise but who will stick around and develop. Or transfers like we have had in the past, talented but under the radar for whatever reason. This offseason will be very telling. The occasional one and done player is OK. But we have to get off the treadmill of turning over the entire roster.

I don't see a lot of options for available Freshman talent good enough to play impactful minutes in the Big 12. So, unless Drew can find a hidden gem, we are left with what we can keep from the existing roster, and what we get in the portal. I would think first priority is to make sure we can hold onto the redshirts. Having a Bodo Bodo, Perez and Williams to build on is a heck of a lot better than trying to build an entire roster around a point guard who leaves anyway. The debacle of last summer was a face plant that we were not going to recover from this year, the question is whether this rebuild is a 2 year plan or longer. That particular question will be answered by the money. Portal transfers are looking for programs that can put the better NIL package together. Until the NCAA starts enforcing or turning back NIL contracts that are flat out pay for play, we are competing in a pro league without a spending cap.

I'm gonna be surprised if we don't have

Soyoye
Iguodala
Bodo Bodo
Perez
Isaac Williams
Agbim (depending on the JUCO rulings)
Nnaji
Elijah Willliams (the freshman)

Of those, Williams is about the only one who would have an opportunity to make a lot more money than he's currently making so someone could potentially come in and steal him if money is his #1 goal.

Cam and Tounde are gonna be the interesting ones. All signs are that it's not a foregone conclusion both are declaring. The challenge, however, will be that both will have very high values and some of the top NIL funded programs could swoop in and take one or both.

(Edited to add the incoming freshman)

Assuming Tounde and Cam will make the back end of the first round, they will likely be gone. If either of them slips out of the first, I hope we can put a package together to keep him. I like the 8 you have possibly returning, but wonder what is possible. We have not shown a great ability to keep bench players the last three years, some of that may be a mutual fit, and some of that may be they just got more money elsewhere.

I like the 8 you have possibly returning, but wonder what is possible. We have not shown a great ability to keep bench players the last three years, some of that may be a mutual fit, and some of that may be they just got more money elsewhere.

The difference in those 8 and prior years is that, other than Williams, none of them have shown they add any value or have a perceived value that they would be highly sought. Bodo Bodo might have some value, but I can't imagine many teams willing to pay much for a guy who missed an entire year with nerve damage and there's no guarantee he'll ever be the same as before. Agbim would add value if he gets his JUCO years back, but if the amount we were rumored to pay him is correct, he would likely take a substantial cut to go elsewhere based on what he's done against P5 level comp here.

Wright obviously displayed his value and BYU was willing to pay for it. Celestine and Love had value because they had produced at decent levels previously. Even though injured, Josh still had value because he had produced for us and a school with a big budget like Ohio St could afford to pay him even though they knew he wasn't going to produce this year. Had we redshirted Josh and paid him, then our rotation would have been even smaller because part of his money was used to sign others. Of course, unfortunately, a portion of that was probably allocated for Rataj and that hasn't worked out too well.

So, that's the difference I see in this year and, let's say, last year.

I think Tounde and Cam's stock is moving in opposite directions. Tounde flashes enough upside that someone will take him late 1st round IMO. But Cam has regressed mightily over the past month or so. Cam has devolved into an inefficient turnover machine. Lazy, low IQ turnovers. He has lost his compusure on the court, playing hero ball trying to force everything. Flailing in the lane over and over again trying to draw fouls. Also appears to be wearing down physically. Due to age he has less perceived upside than true freshmen, so at this point is sliding into the mid 2nd round or completely out of the draft IMO. His best bet (literally) would be to command top dollar in the portal. I would love to have him back for a reset and a better team around him, but I don't think we can pay him enough.
