If you really want to make yourself feel depressed, go look at how our individual players fair comparatively in defensive efficiency and defensive rating across multiple evaluative platforms to other Big 12 and P5 players. Four of the guys have low enough ratings one wonders if it would be just as effective to stick a cardboard mannequin out there to guard an opponent.

IMO this is the largest sign that Drew is lost.

Defense should be what help keeps you even in tough times and should be one of the first things you can instill in your transfers. I don't mean you should always be able to have a top 10 defense, but it should be tough and not suck out loud. Truly bad defense is a sign of a lack of commitment and effort.

In all fairness, though, we've probably faced more elite competition up to this point than any other team. Maybe our resident statisticians can look into that. And when you lose a star PG you were counting on to NIL, and you have a completely new team with players that never played with each other before this season, and on top of that you add a brand new big man into the rotation right before facing a run of elite competition, all under a brand new defensive coach... then honestly, the result isn't really all that surprising.

I'm giving Drew a pass this season, and allowing him time to adjust to the new landscape. For heaven's sake, he's earned the benefit of the doubt. Heck, he still can make something of this season. His strength was always being a "program building" coach, not a "yearly NIL piece-together team" coach that you have to be now. NIL ruined college sports. Thanks, all you idiots who supported paying the players.

Not just "lose games". We are getting run out of the Arena. Frankly, this talk is meaningless to me. The coaches set this roster (last year too). We were still going to have a PG issue, and we have no idea how many of our current team will even be back next year. It could be another rebuild.

Try this - abandon defense altogether. Run a straight full court press with a slight twist to mimic LM / Hank Gathers teams and just fire up 3's and let them take their dunks and layups.

It would be entertaining- which is basically what you are now. Albeit - a pretty expensive one at $5m a season.

Why is our basketball and football defense so poor? I cannot figure it out. The only really good defense was the national championship team. We are trying to run that same defense, and it is a disaster. Teams are able to just dribble to the basket for layups or make uncontested three-point shots. We seem to run a hybrid of man and zone, and it is not working. I say go full man to man defense. It could not get any worse. The ladies do a great job of it.

pretty sure this defense implemented by Sanchez is dfifferent than that year. championship year we played a man to man switching most of the time with emphasis on forcing everything out of the middle. it didn't work as well the years after with players that weren't as good defensively or maybe teams figured how to play against it better hence why we starting playing more zone and why we brought in a new coach to try new things this year

Yeah...it's so strange. After so many years of just assuming we would be in the hunt every year for competing for a conference title it feels like we've suddenly fallen way off a cliff.

We are not even in the same stratosphere as the top conference teams. Sucks.

Continuity. Teams that have multi year guys on a consistent basis tend to be good. Drew prefers 1 n done freshman and transfers. He's completely gotten away from roster continuity and it's showing

It's just so surprising how far Drew's program has fallen. With AZ and BYU added to an already strong conference, Baylors become an afterthought. They'll soon be talking more about "why has the program fallen" versus the basketball scandal and Drew's rebuild story.

If it weren't for where Tang's team currently is, I'd say yes. But IMO it's way deeper than that.
