But, but, but.......He went to BYU because it was preparing him for the NBA. BYU media and fans told me he was devoted to the program. They said it was never about the money.

BYU deserves this! I'm just sorry he told them this early and didn't wait until after all the good PGs were gone.

Rob is the perfect model for the NIL era. Get your money while you can. I get it. He's not likely to ever see a NBA court as a player. I would probably do the same. My dig is still with BYU for playing the Eddie Haskell innocent role and pretending they never tampered with anyone when they've been one of the biggest offenders of the NIL era.

100 percent. I look forward to watching their hypocrite fans turn on him.

I definitely have some satisfaction seeing BYU also get burned by him...but damn college sports are so screwed up right now. The fans are getting the worst of it.

I am no insider. I have no sources. But I knew this would happen. He's not an NBA PG. His dad will move him around all four years to get his money.

using (semi-)professional sports as a wealth building starter kit isn't inherently bad, and I think many athletes will attempt it...but the way he and his father handled the move from BU to BYU was hot garbage.

And the lying about it. He wants to go because BYU can get you to the NBA? They can get AJ to the NBA I guess (pretty sure he'd be a top 2 pick if he went to Cal Irvine). But I see a lot more Baylor players in the NBA.

the difference here is that BYU didn't stake their entire season on a contract with him for next, which another school then tortiously interfered with after it was too late to find a replacement, taking their season and causing millions of dollars in damages. I still don't understand why Baylor hasn't sued BYU for tortious interference with their contract. I would love to see the contract or better understand why they didn't do it. The lawsuit writes itself after the results of this season. There's also no reason to fear PR backlash at this point, with all the other lawsuits that have been filed.

Not 100% of the time, but most of the time, when you hear someone say, "it's not about the money" IT'S ABOUT THE MONEY.

It appears all statements and contractual agreements by RW3 are subject to revision by RW2.

If it helps explain it further, don't forget we're the morons that nuked a nationally relevant football program over a made up "scandal" because Texas Monthly and UT told us to.

As I understand it, BYU denied knowing RW3 had signed an agreement with Baylor, so tortious interference might have been a difficult thing to prove. Also, there is the question of what comprised Wright's would-be compensation, i.e.., revenue share vs. pure NIL incentive which would not be guaranteed by the University. Finally, the choices Baylor had was to go after a fellow conference school, which would have been a political nightmare, or go after a former player and family, which would have damaged recruiting. The reality is, this was a problem the Big 12 should have resolved. When there is a dispute between conference schools, it is the job of the Conference to step in, otherwise, what exactly is the point of being in a conference?

Unless I'm missing something (entirely possible I am!) this sounds similar to the Bediako case which NCAA denied his return to NCAA and courts backed them up. Walker had signed a letter of intent to play for Arizona State but de-committed to play pro. He placed his name in the NBA draft but was undrafted and has played G league ever since. Not sure this differs enough from Bediako to qualify him.

Why aren't schools signing these kids for more than one year? Is there a rule against it? Just curious.

Zero sympathy for anyone naive enough to try and build their roster around Wright. BYU getting what they deserve.

That would mean you have no sympathy for BU. Because BU tried building everything around RW3

After what he did to Baylor, he showed who he was and who BYU was in tampering with and taking him. Anyone that pursues him already understands who or what he is.

Exactly. He and his dad showed who they are. If BYU was dumb enough to think the same thing wouldn't happen to them, "sucks to suck," as my kids would say.

He gets over $2M. Are you hiring a mercenary or a student athlete?

My hope is he doesn't find a "big" school. I know he will, though. Michigan just won it all with transfers.

This process has just gotten really difficult to invest in as a fan. Even once you add a player, you don't actually know if they're any good in most cases.

Just fill out the roster and I'll decide what I think once I've seen 10 or 15 games.

Disingenuous, selfish clown. Mark my words: Robert Wright III will never make an NBA roster. And, he knows it.

Just be honest dude; no games. People, and teammates would respect you more. He don't get it......
Mitch Henessey
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Wright's asking price is allegedly $4mm, and Kentucky is the odds-on favorite to land him. BYU is out of the running because they have 8 roster spots to fill and cannot afford to spend that much on an undersized PG who can't defend.
