How will Akinjo fit into the team?

The knock on him has been his efficiency numbers are low. Jim Boeheim described him as a "ball hog."

With tons of additional scoring threats on this team as compared with Arizona, can he fit into the JOY culture?

We really need him to (1) be an elite ball-handler and beat pressure; (2) keep turnovers down; (3) be a 3-point threat to keep floor spacing (this should be easy for him); (4) create shots for others (e.g., Mayer, JTT, Brown) (again he's proven here); and (5) be a solid, if not strong defender.

Some games that might mean he gets 8 points on 3-5 shots and 8-10 assists. Is he going to be ok with that less glamorous role? Might be one of the crucial issues determining the ceiling of this team in 2022. Needs to realize if he can do those things and the team succeeds he becomes a viable NBA draft pick, which as of right now he's not from what I can tell.

Sic' em!

It is hard for me imagine any really selfish player interested in Baylor having watched us play. It is also hard to imagine that our coaches haven't done their homework. This is his third school? It will be interesting to see how he does. Wonder how he and Mayer will get along?

I agree that Baylor coaches strongly believe he will fit in. JOY will really be put to the test this year between Akinjo, Mayer apparently a case of Mono away from going to the NBA, and a top-15 recruit coming in. If they can repeat last year's unselfish attitude the sky is the limit. Last year Butler set the tone as the star player (in my view) along with the other big 3, but whom will do so this year? I think it really has to be Mayer and Akinjo setting the tone. If they lead out with JOY others will follow.

No doubt we're losing a lot of experience, but I'm excited to see how this team is going to "re-load" and perform next season. Having talent and depth certainly shouldn't be a problem.

This year's team has a lot more unknowns than last year's. Last year the big question was about our center position with losing Freddie. This year we got several new faces that have to integrate into the team and are expected to contribute right away.

He's going to be a great fit, IMO.

His PER has improved each season as has his BPM (+/-) - driven primarily by his offensive +/-.

He's going to benefit for playing for experienced coaches that aren't under investigations or on the hot seat. In addition he's coming into a strong culture with players who've been around a few years.

Key points: defend with intensity, don't turn it over, and don't try to do too much.

Akinjo won Big East ROY over his teammate Mac McClung. He's talented, and I think he's going to be another standout transfer guard under CSD.

Agreed. His film reminds me a bit of Kenny cherry but he has more versatility offensively and can score fairly proficiently at all three levels. He is quick and agile and fluid but doesn't appear to have crazy athleticism (like davion's quickness or pierre's explosion) but he is very savvy, has good body control, and a very nice stroke. I wouldn't be surprised if he is our leading scorer in quite a few games.
