We are indeed in control of our destiny, and we are positioned to make the home stretch user friendly for our Bears. I like the consistency we have seen for the last several games, and the growing confidence of the team.
Jordan Lewis has very quietly become one of the best point guards we have ever had, a leader on the floor and a very impressive presence at key points of the game. But the key is and always has been Queen Egbo. When she plays well, the Bears win, often with separation, and she has been playing very well. NaLyssa is playing up to, if not exceeding, the preseason laurels that she accumulated. Andrews and Asberry have found their shooting touch and Bickle plays important minutes.
Coach Collen has brought them along to a point where they seem to need very little prodding -- this is a team that knows what it has to do. I look forward to seeing how they perform during these last few games and then the tournaments. I fear that their lack of depth will hurt them in the conference tournament, but not nearly so much in the NCAA Tournament. If they can play with few turnovers, as they did against TCU, they will be hard to beat.
I like our chances but you are correct, we cannot fall asleep on it the last 5 games. I believe that CNC will keep them focused on each game and not looking ahead to Iowa State. I hope the girls learned that when they lost to OU at home earlier this month.
I know that Smith, Egbo, and Bickle all came back because they wanted to win another B12 championship without our last coach and they believe they have the team/personnel to do it. They now see they are so close that focus on each game one at at time to reach that goal.
Interestingly, I think the finish to this B12 season is going to be one of the most entertaining in a long time. You have 5-6 teams within 2 games (including a surprising Kansas team, which is a trap game for us) of the top. You know Vic is coaching them up that anything can happen so, we may actually get some help from the team down south.
I think that we all are going to watch the final couple weeks unfold and it will be an exciting finish!!
