With today's sweep of Texas, the road to winning the Big 12 does get closer but not by much. The most important games remaining for the us are:

vs K-State

@ Iowa State

The most important remaining games not involving Baylor are:

OU @ Texas

OU @ ISU

K-State @ OU

ISU @ Texas (Assuming a loss to Iowa State on the 28th)

Texas @ K-State (Assuming a loss to K-State on the 9th)

Beating K-State on Wednesday will be crucial in solidifying our standings. If we can win out and get two of Iowa State, Kansas State, or Texas to beat Oklahoma, Baylor would win the Big 12 at 15-3. We would also need Iowa State to drop a game to Texas to ensure that they wouldn't finish at 15-3 as well (ISU is 2-0 vs OU; Baylor 0-2.)

Thanks for the research. If we find a way to finish 15-3 in conference, I'll call that very successful whether that's first place or third. It would mean we're on a roll in March. I'll be surprised if OU or ISU can finish with only two losses.

Baylor will be a favorite in every remaining Big 12 game, except for Iowa State in Ames. We really have a good chance to run the table if we can play good defense .

Look at Massey Ratings for analytical analysis, no voting or personal opinions involved.

Don't forget UT beat KState by 18 3 days after KState beat OU by 29, and UT beat an albeit shorthanded IowaSt by 18 in Ames. But then again UT lost at home to both KU and Tech.

It is a weird year in the Big 12!

You got that right - but its like this almost everywhere - that's why I think this upcoming tournament will have more lower seeds beating higher seeds them ever before

Let's say Baylor and Iowa State (or any team really) end up at the same record at the top of the league -- doesn't that equal a shared regular-season crown (regardless of head-to-head)?

Yes, but with the above, it would give us the 1 seed in the Big 12 tournament, making the streak feel more legitimate.

Correct me if I am wrong, but OU and Iowa St. have only played once. They play again in like a week or so.

Correct. So, that will give one of those teams a certain 3rd loss.

Everything else aside we need Iowa St to beat OU and for us to beat Iowa St. Could be a three way tie. Then I think the tie breaker becomes points scored minus points allowed. We are currently - 7 against OU and + 26 against Iowa St. OU is currently -10 against Iowa St. Stay tuned.

The tie-breaker only affects seeding for the Big 12 tournament. If we tie, we are co-champions. (And aren't you still so glad Bob Bowlsby spent all that money on the slogan One True Champion?)

I think the #1 seed will have 4 losses. Whether there are teams tied with that, we will see....most likely yes, IMO.

We have already been co-champions once in the streak. One year we tied with WVU. They beat us, I believe, in the last conference game at home in Waco. But the series was split 1-1.

I think you are right. What we are seeing in our conference is happening in others, as well, though maybe not at the VERY top. A more wide open tourney will generate more interest.

BOOM!! With Texas beating Oklahoma tonight, OU and Baylor are now second in the Big 12 at 9-3, ISU at 10-2.

Avoid random upsets, beat ISU on the 28th, have OU lose to ISU on the 19th and that's 12 straight

I fully expect OU to finish with 5 loses. They will likely have no match for Lee and KState

Now it appears as if Kansas is a threat yo beat OU or someone else as well.

We play Kansas again on 2/26 in Waco. Our schedule from here out is for the most part pretty friendly.

I posted this on the premium thread yesterday. Sort of gives the best path for Baylor. Current standings:

ISU 10-2
BU 9-3
OU 9-3

BuinmyBlood10:02p, 2/12/22

If I've got this figured right, ideally, and assuming all 3 teams win the remainder of their games other than the following matchups, we would prefer:

Iowa State beats OU, putting OU a full game behind us,
Texas beats ISU, making our record with ISU the same,
Baylor beats ISU in Ames to capture the championship outright

This would be Baylor's best case scenario. Obviously there are other scenarios where we could end up in a first place or 2nd place tie with one of the other 2 teams...

I wouldn't be too disappointed to see us end in a tie, especially after the Covid and learning curve struggles at the beginning of the season. I am just afraid that the legs are going to wear out because of our short bench. As such I wouldn't mind seeing this......

UT (or KU) beats ISU, OU beats ISU, and KSU or someone else beats OU. That would give us a cushion to lose one game and still finish no worse than a tie for first. That game at ISU is going to be tough, especially if it means ISU can win or tie for the championship with a win. Even the KU game in Waco could be dicey.

It looks like Texas will pull off the upset of ISU and we will hold against TCU. With those results, combined with OU losing to Tech, we will move back to first in the Big 12 in a "tie" with ISU.

Beware of Kansas, they are in 4th and finish against the other top 5 teams. They will have a say in the final standings. Glad we play them in Waco.

CNC may have done as good a job as any of them, taking the train wreck of a situation she inherited late plus the loss of the first two conference games highly influenced by a team hobbled by Covid at the beginning of the conference season. I just hope our legs hold out. During the broadcast last night, Jim Haller said that Smith had mentioned to him that her knees were sore.

Don't know that it should be considered much of an upset. Looking at ISU's record, I don't see anything that is impressive, certainly nothing that would justify the ranking they will certainly lose after this week.

And BTW, with OU losing to Tech, I think we should be for OU beating ISU. That would give us a one-game cushion and allow us to still get at least a co-championship if we don't win at Ames and can handle the rest of our business.

I agree you always need to root for the team tied with you or closest to you in the standings to lose. ISU needs to keep losing
