for those discussing seating, the new arena already is planned to have rows of student seating on one side down low and then more student seating behind the basket on at least 1 side if not both, cant recall if both. That is already laid out and will have to wait until then. The only solution concerning student seating right now in the FC is simple. remove every folding black chair from the student section risers and that allows more students to pack in and be closer to the court. While doing so, also remove the 5 or so rows of chairs directly to the right of the student section that are also on the same risers. that should all be students. IDK if they are ticketed for wbb games but i can confirm that at mbb, they are GA. They should not be having quiet fans sitting closest to the opposing bench. Those few rows hover almost right above the end of the bench. The risers should only hold the band on one side and all students in the rest.
and to clarify, i am not talking about the championship row risers across from bench side nor behind the benches, but only the risers that students are on. The student section flows up behind the risers but you could pack in at least 100 more close to the court if they did the above. student leaders within the bear pit have requested this and simply get told it is being discussed. The issue here starts and ends with student engagment folks, just like the issues we had this past season where the baylor line had tons of empty sections because they refused to let the non freshman move down after kick off. eventually they caved to public pressure. hopefully yall will join me in blasting them about these bball seats because it works.
as for in game promotions ect, that isnt going to change much for week night games when it comes to basketball. pizza is already a thing in the bear pit and the org of the game as well which rotates to different student orgs each home game and those sit down in the risers on opposite base line near home bench. sometimes the org is full of loud energy and sometimes isnt. just depends on the students. Want to get more students there? it just comes down to winning which we are doing and showing them home court advantage matters.
free pizza and other things has a much bigger impact on the smaller sports. we broke indoor tennis record saturday afternoon. mens tennis has been giving out free pizza and other items each game. the effect is proportional is essentially what i mean by smaller sports will see more benefit in those things. the culture at baylor is still not what it needs to be when it comes to rabid student support. it is changing but it is an uphill climb simply due to the student demographic. However, as we keep winning and students enjoy games then it will grow. We just have to keep changing the culture of students and other fans being told to sit down and not yell so much into a culture that supports a hostile home environment. dont need to yell **** the other team but rather just be loud the entire game and heckle the other team. that is changing for the good but the fight is long from over.
end of day, you just have to keep chopping wood. change the culture and you change the atmosphere. there is no fix all solution. there are many factors that play into any specific schools student attendance. And the last thing you all should keep in mind is this. no matter how often we sell out the student allotment in the FC and no matter if we increased it for next year and sold that out every game, 99% of the empty seats you see are not student seats. The real issue is those.
