HEAD COACH CONTRACT

Iowa State head coach Bill Fennelly has agreed to a two-year contract extension keeping him on the Cyclone sidelines until at least 2027. The dean of Big 12 coaches just finished his 26th season at Iowa State with another NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament appearance, his 19th with the Cyclones. Contract terms will be shared at a later date.

Fennelly's career mark is 706-337 and his Iowa State ledger is 540-284. He won 166 games at Toledo before coming to Iowa State. His teams have made the NCAA Tournament 21 times, including two at Toledo.

Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard stated
"Ellen and I had an enjoyable dinner with Deb and Bill last night which included a great discussion about our futures. It was encouraging to hear and feel the enthusiasm, energy, passion and desire Coach Fennelly still has for leading our women's basketball program. During those discussion, we mutually agreed to extend his contract through 2027 in order to send a clear message to recruits, student-athletes, his staff, and our fans, that Coach Fennelly will continue leading our women's basketball program for the foreseeable future."

Former Texas standouts Jamie Carey and Empress Davenport join the UTSA basketball staff, head coach Karen Aston announced. Carey will serve as the associate head coach and Davenport as the recruiting coordinator.

Carey comes to Military City USA after spending the 2020-21 season at conference foe North Texas in the same position. Prior to her short stint in Denton, Carey spent four years on the coaching staff of her alma mater, Texas, under Aston from 2014-20. She was an assistant coach from 2016-18 before being promoted to associate head coach for the final two years. Cary ranks 43rd in Texas history with 1,074 career points, where she was a two-time All-Big-12 selection and set the program standard for 3-point field goal percentage (.418). She was the 31st pick in the 2005 WNBA Draft and played four years with the Connecticut Sun.

Davenport recently completed her third year as an assistant coach at Lamar, where she worked with a pair of head coaches, including Robin Harmony (2018-19) and Aqua Franklin (2019-21). She was a four-year standout for the Longhorns, averaging nearly eight points, four rebounds and better than two assists per game during her collegiate career. During Davenport's time on campus, the Longhorns recorded three 20-win seasons, including 31 wins in 2015-16. Davenport was a huge part in the Horns' 10-game turnaround as a sophomore.
