A bad loss for UT. That said, they still have a lot of HS All Americans on their team - and, they should have Joyner Holmes back, fairly soon, who should provide a boost in offensive production. Baylor hasn't shown the ability to put good teams away, yet.

I still think Baylor will win both regular season games against UT.

INJURY

Nov 14, 2018

"Shaina Pellington walked up to Ana Llanusa during the Oklahoma season opener last week with a question. Llanusa was laboring and ultimately missed all six field-goal attempts against Western Kentucky.

"I asked her, 'Are you OK?' Because I could tell she wasn't being herself," Pellington said. "She was like, 'Shaina, this is the last game before I get my surgery.'"

Llanusa, a sophomore shooting guard with 23 career starts, is expected to miss an undetermined amount of time after undergoing foot surgery Monday to relieve a stress fracture. She is expected back this season, coach Sherri Coale said.

The sophomore from Choctaw averaged 12.6 points last season and is a critical piece for the Sooners.

A capable 3-point shooter and improved defender, she was one of the most experienced players on a roster with 7 freshmen.

It leaves OU (1-0) shorthanded going into Thursday's home game against Northwestern State and Sunday's trip to 21st-ranked South Florida. Freshman guard Taylor Robertson, who scored 24 points off 8-of-14 shooting from long range, is expected to replace Llanusa in the starting lineup.

OU's backcourt was without senior Gileysa Penzo and freshman Jessi Murcer in the 90-83 victory over Western Kentucky.

"Everybody's going to have to be a little better everybody," Coale said. "It changes our rotation, there's not as much depth in the guard spot, which we played through minus two the other night. It'll be minus one now."

Llanusa struggled defensively a year ago, but made strides in that department. Her length was a tool the Sooners hoped would lead to deflections and steals, which could fuel more transition baskets with their smaller, faster lineups this season. The Sooners must adjust without her energy.

"Technically, she's one of the seniors," Pellington said of Llanusa's experience. "It's like having that missing piece can affect certain practices and the way we play. That extra voice, you don't hear it any more. You can feel that presence. We need to do a better job making up for that with her out."

The setback means Pellington must continue her high-scoring ways. She scored a career-high 33 points off 10-of-24 shooting in OU's opener. That doesn't mean Pellington's approach will change.

"I mean, if I'm open and I have an advantage to score, I'm gonna score," Pellington said. "If I feel like the advantage is not there but someone else has more of an advantage than I do, then I'm gonna give the ball to them. It's not going to affect the way I play."

The fifth Women's Basketball Challenge between the Big 12 and Southeastern Conference will open this Thursday, Nov. 29 with two games and conclude on Sunday, Dec. 2, with eight matchups. The SEC/Big 12 Challenge will feature every team from the Big 12 against 10 squads from the SEC.

Oklahoma and Arkansas, who were both receiving votes, played in the second game. The conferences split the Challenge with the two games decided by a total of nine points.

The 2015 version was contested in Oklahoma City with the opponents reversed as No. 5 Texas played Arkansas while No. 17 Oklahoma competed against No. 18 Texas A&M. Each league again claimed a win. In 2016, the SEC edged the Big 12, 6-4, in the first 10-game slate. Last season, both teams split the Challenge with a 5-5 mark.

WEEK 4

Dec 3, 2018

"Oklahoma State sophomore guard Braxtin Miller was named the Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week, while Oklahoma guard Taylor Robertson earned Freshman of the Week honors.

Braxtin Miller G SO
Oklahoma State
Averaged 24.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists in three games last week to earn her first Player of the Week award. The sophomore became the 23rd different player in program history to log a 30-point game, with her 30-point performance at Wichita State. She dished out a career-high eight assists against Texas State and finished with a game-high 29 points against No. 11 Tennessee.

Taylor Robertson G FR
Oklahoma
Boasted an average of 25.0 points and shot 50 percent from the field (17-of-34) in OU's contests at Auburn and New Mexico. She tallied a season-high 27 points at Auburn and led the Sooners with 23 at New Mexico. She registered her second and third games of the season with at least seven 3-pointers. The Freshman of the Week award is the 3rd for Robertson this season."

I wonder how Robertson will shoot against Big 12 competition? She has put up monster numbers against less-than-stellar competition, thus far. She is averaging over 33 minutes per game - it'll be interesting to see how she shoots after guarding (and trying to get away from) some of the speedsters in conference play.

Reminds me of when Kristy Wallace was the only unanimous selection for 2014-15 Big 12 All-Freshman team, although Ortiz (OU) was selected Freshman of the year. Ortiz averaged 32 mpg while Wallace averaged 23 mpg.

No joke.

Anybody happen to watch OU, at home, last night against powerhouse U of Central Arkansas? OU never had a big lead till the last 3-4 minutes of the game, with the lead going back and forth in a horribly played game by both squads. That final margin of 13 points or whatever was SERIOUSLY misleading as they added maybe 8 unanswered points in the final minutes. UCA probably wouldn't be within 20 points of any other Big 12 team through one half of play.

All that being said, this was the worst-looking bunch of non-athletes I've ever seen take the floor for OU. They average 19 years old, and several of them look like they're about 15. Maybe one athletic body in the bunch and she's their senior post player (from Nigeria , as I recall). All of 6-3. Think she's the tallest player on the roster. The only reason Robertson is scoring so much is because she's basically the only one who can score for them.

Sherri's program is in the crapper. Can't see them even being a threat to the top 3 teams in the Big 12 year-in and year-out. How the mighty have fallen...
