I was wondering if something like this may happen with the long hair a lot of the ladies are sporting these days. It seems kinda impractical to me, but I'm not young, pretty or athletic.

Kalani Brown was involved in a brief altercation when her doo slapped a defender in the face every time she turned her head.
I can't remember the name of the other player involved but after a couple of facial whips she grabbed Kalani's hair and threatened to rip it out. Things were calmed down fairly quickly but it made ESPN highlights for several days.
I agree with you about the impractical aspect of the doos, SOME athletes seem more concerned about how they look more then how they play. Some do well with both.

In the beginning days of WNBA, Lisa Leslie was involved in a similar incident.

I won't tell anyone how to wear their hair (and dare to share that I don't really care, which seems fair......someone stop me!) But, you have to accept the risks if you play the game with long, loose hair.

Back in high school gym class, there was this kid with a cast on his arm, and he wanted to still play basketball, but he would blow up if anyone touched his arm. It's the same thing here. No one is going to stay 5 feet away from you and let you do whatever you want because you have a cast / long hair. If you choose to play the game that way, you might get hurt, and that's not the other players' fault.

I personally don't think it's fair for a girl to have long-headed braids that she can use as a weapon to keep people from guarding her clothes from either side or behind it is a distinct advantage for the offensive player with long braids. I think they should not be allowed to add braids during a game. If they have natural long hair that's one thing but to add the braids is to add a distinct advantage you as a player.

I've seen a few fights in some Hockey games that just almost made it worth watching. But in WBB I prefer to watch without any hair pulling. And you know some times that hair aint their hair. And when a $400 dollar batch of weave gets yanked off a womans head that can leave her looking rather scary.

Works better with tiny fishhooks tied to the ends of the braids.

All American Haley Jones of Stanford has a huge amount of hair.I have wondered if it is ever a distraction for her and whether it gets grabbed by women guarding her(which could invite a physical reaction).
