My understanding from someone with knowledge of the situation is that Kentucky will not sign Edwards waiver. I have no idea as to why or the circumstances surrounding their decision.

It's colege athletics and there are rules to be played too. She wanted to transfer. Just because us fans expected one thing, I think it's foolish to assume the staff wasn't fully aware do what was expected. Don't point fingers, there are four pointing back and it makes you sound like a whiner. She'll okay she approved based on the rules that everyone adheres to.

That there are compliance "rules" is exactly my point. As this "discussion" played out, it would appear that on our end due diligence was in place and that the "issues" were not in Waco. That fact was questionable at the time I posted; as this cleared up, I made the point in a subsequent post that the information now available clarified her situation.

Not "finger pointing" at anyone; merely making the point that if we awarded a schollie to any athlete outside compliance then action should be taken to rectify that and prevent reoccurrence. And unequivocally not whining, which is what you concluded. Perhaps you lack objectivity toward women's BB, causing you to defend your "turf" a bit? That's fine; I understand and suggest you understand also my distance from the program beyond season tix and that my concerns about BU taking care of business aren't leveled at anyone, most especially Coach Collen.

Public relations warfare should be on the horizon.

The court of public opinion should not tolerate this---and potential UK recruits probably won't either. What an awful system that the NCAA would give a university such power without regulation.

I realize the school that loses a player doesn't benefit by signing the waiver. How often does this occur? Also, if Kentucky sticks to not signing this, wouldn't many schools negative recruit vs Kentucky by saying they won't sign waivers to let student athletes transfer that are unhappy?

This interview was inspirational. I don't know what went on at Kentucky and all of us have done things we come to regret later. Dre came across as a mature thoughtful young lady with a sweet spirit. It is good to see a person maintain a positive attitude in the face of disappointment. I don't know why KY hasn't signed the waiver, yet, but I hope their reasons aren't vindictive. In any case, I am so happy that Dre is a part of the Baylor family. I sincerely hope that she maintains her great attitude. I hope she gets to play sooner rather that later. Elzy received a huge raise and a contract extension one month after this game. Hmm. Might there be some sore feelings when Dre and four other players transferred out at the end of the season? Did those other players sign the same agreement as Dre?

Prior to the 2021-22 season starting, Elzy dismissed guard Erin Toller from the team, and forward and key contributor Dre'una Edwards who made the game-winning shot to win the SEC Tournament title for Kentucky was twice suspended by Elzy during the season for a total of five games.

After the season ended in March, four UK players Edwards, Treasure Hunt, Jazmine Massengill and Olivia Owens all elected to enter their names into the NCAA transfer portal and probably will leave the UK program. Howard is also leaving the Kentucky team to turn pro.

Edwards, Hunt and Massengill announced their decisions to enter the transfer portal on the same day, and Elzy commented on those decisions during a subsequent television appearance on the SEC Network.

"I am confident in myself as a coach and a person, and what our staff does for our student-athletes on and off the court," Elzy said. "I have a group of athletes on campus and signees that are excited about Kentucky women's basketball."

I don't know the answer to that. But I do know they both have been playing on their new teams all season. Something seems off.

Was it their first transfer though? This is Dre's second. The first is always "free" now:

Massengill started out at Tennessee so she transferred twice. Just like Dre.

And Treasure Hunt is having a pretty good season for Arizona State so both are playing and yes, Massengill was a UTenn to KY to FSU transfer and would have needed and received the same 4x4x4 transfer waiver that Dre needs. This is pure punishment.

Hopefully increased awareness shames the Kentucky coach into doing the right thing.

Massengill was a grad transfer I believe, which makes a difference.

Still, I think the Kentucky coach should sign the waiver. I see they are 0-3 in the SEC so far, so she may have bigger problems.
