Depends if Iowa spent it all tonight. If they can play like this twice, Iowa will be your Champions. If not, I expect Kim will be hanging a 4th. I expect Angel Reese and probably Morris to have big games. Should be a good one.

Yes. In a normal universe, this is a fireable offense. No institution should tolerate defamation from any of their head coaches.

Isn't the South Carolina coach the won the went all racist on BYU and then had to eat it so they quietly buried her ridiculous comments?

If I were LSU and/or Kim I would double team Kaitlyn Clark and shut her down completely and it would force Iowa to do things that are not used to doing. LSU can win the national championship good for mulky she gets her 4th..

Awesome game can't believe South Carolina lost. LSU caught a break. Clark is awesome but no one wants to play USC. Kim and LSU's odds of winning the Natty went up.

Look I am not a fan of Dawn. I think she uses her ethnicity and gender as well political leanings to gain an advantage in recruiting and life. However she is not wrong about how media in general treat say Caitlin Clark's personality and competitiveness v say Angel Reese. The whole white v black team thing was such an undercurrent that it is hard to ignore. Why did we used to refer to white boxers as the great white hope

So me not liking Dawn does not mean she is not making valid points

At a minimum, she should have publicly apologized to BYU for automatically assuming what quickly proved to be a baseless lie of an accusation was true without waiting for all the facts to come out - but of course, didn't.

You can talk about racism all you want to, but the hoop does not know the color of the person shooting the ball, it's the same size for everyone. The court doesn't lengthen nor contract based on the skin color of the one chasing a rebound. Dawn gets beat, and she changes the narrative from her teams inadequacies to racism, that feels better than saying you were schooled by Clark who just beat your whole team of giant players. Truth be told SC players committed twice as many fouls as were called if the refs followed the accepted rules of the game. SC plays street ball that I play with my buddies when no one is calling fouls. Geno said the way SC plays is not even basketball. I think he knows a little about the women's game. You can't wrap ur arms around and opponent's waste and get a jump ball call. Or push players to the ground and get the out of bounds call. Iowa beat the cocks and the refs. Let's get off the political agendas and tell the truth. Iowa was the most skilled team even though they were not the most athletic . And clearly Clark was the right pick for POY over Boston. It's not even close. Why can't Dawn accept a universe in which her team, on a given night, might not be the best team on the court. Truth be told, SC looked human several games this year, but everyone, including Dawn, refused that truth. Tonight, truth would not be silenced nor ignored. And a narrative switch won't alter who will be playing for a natty, the best team still will.

If you look at twitter alone this season you can see what she is talking about. She had that issue with Uconn and people
calling them thugs and stuff. If you get beat because a team is more athletic than you give them props work harder in the weight room and let it be. But calling 18-24 year old women thugs because they play aggressive defense is degrading to their character as a human. All because they found the philosophy that helped them win a lot of basketball games this season!! The narrative needs to change in the way we talk about teams that are like this. i still see people calling Louisville Thugs and to me HVL plays just like Kim. I don't know it's weird and needs to stop

Fredbear you bring out some great points especially on the reffing in the IU - SC game last night. Right at the end when Boston wrapped her hand around the Iowa girl and threw her to the ground causing her head to bang the floor was an absurd call. Dee Canter called that a tie ball. Replay clearly showed different. I used to admire Dee Canter because in her prime she was consistently accurate on her calls. She's getting like me now, just a little too old and burnt out for the job. Somebody needs to send her to her room. The way she reffed the Big 12 tourney and the LSU - UT game in the SEC tourney really had me shaking my head.

regardless the difference in the game was free throws go look at the box score, that's the difference. South Carolina has to get a consistent 3 point shooter. One that is not afraid to shoot at all. It would help them so much!!

I've watched a lot of their games living here in Iowa and they have different ways of beating you. The problem with this strategy is that Iowa has 3 to 4 other girls that can shoot 3's. If they get hot they are unstoppable, because double teaming Caitlin, who is probably the best passer I've ever seen in WBB, leaves them wide open.

Iowabear I agree with you. Off night. But how does a coach, Dawn or any other, not have her troops motivated and ready for a final four match. Off night on the road, middle of the season, other team has nothing to lose, threes are raining, I get that. But how does dawn or NC or any other coach fail at preparation on this Stage. When Texas was blown out of the tournament early Vic said (and I seldom agree with Vic) this is on me. My job is to get the best out of the players and I didn't. I watched Dawn's demeanor at the start, and said to my family, she is seated and disengaged, Her posture when they are going to lose. When u win so much, you take it as the inevitable end of the game. Over time our rotation of bigs, rebounds, and force will win, until it doesn't. Dawn did not make adjustments at halftime. She thought Boston off the bench, and we win. While I am always a BU fan, and still ticked at KM, I will admit she is the ONE coach who never fails to engage with the game. Dawn, Geno, the rest say aw shucks at times, but not Mulkey. I'm not pulling for her tomorrow, but I promise you her presence will be a force, win or lose.

Not sure why you're responding to me… my comment was in reference to SC needing a 3pt shooter. They were 36-0 just missed open shots. Hell half the time Iowa didn't even guard them, just dared them to shoot it. Clark is phenomenal, but from a team talent perspective there's a large gap between SC and Iowa. Iowa played as close to a perfect game as you can in that situation

I didn't watch much of the game, but these things happen. Is it the coach didn't have them ready or it just wasn't their night. I don't know. I know that we were asking the same questions about Kim when we lost some E8 games to Oregon State, games where we supposedly had the better talent. In other words it is not uncommon to see what you are talking about. Basketball is a game to me that is one where the better team just doesn't win as much as they should. Primarily I guess because it is a game that can be influenced so greatly by the referees causing players to have to sit out because of fouls and because of calls that are right or wrong based on a very fine line of interpretation.

I lived in Iowa for a time and our daughter was born in Iowa. We will be rooting for Iowa.

South Carolina is not a good perimeter shooting team. Against Maryland the Gamecocks made enough 3-point shots to force the Terps to cover their shooters. More to the point, Maryland got into foul trouble and their best players sat out most of the second quarter.

What had me perplexed against Iowa is the way South Carolina decided to play the game. Iowa does have good perimeter shooters but it is no secret that the Hawkeyes have only two legitimate scoring threats. How do you allow those two players to go off for 41 and 18 points respectively?!

Clark is an exceptional player but Iowa has lost 6 times this season. Did Dawn Staley not watch game film? You have to force the ball out of Clark's hands. You cannot guard her one-on-one, you have to regularly double team and trap her as soon as she gets the ball, preferably before Iowa gets into its half-court offense. When you play Iowa you have to force someone other than Clark to beat you.

When Martin, Marshall, and Warnock hit 3-pointers Iowa becomes very hard to beat but going that route is a better option than letting Clark pick your team apart with her shooting and passing. Minimally, South Carolina should have done a better job stopping the Clark to Czinano pick and rolls. The Gamecocks should have also taken the ball right at Czinano given her proclivity to pick up defensive fouls.

Oh well, this has been a tournament of upsets for dynasties.

After viewing Staley's postgame, it is clear to me that, in her heart, she has a bitterness, a resentment, an anger, and even a violent attitude toward white people. It comes out in her coaching, and every expression and her tone of voice. It's all she can do to not say, "you white people have been warned." There is a way to play tough aggressive BB, as we saw our " Great Team" play, but not an intentionally rough, banging, street ball style. I believe she could be instilling in her players a racial anger that we have never seen on a college WBB team. If the WBB refs allow this to continue, someone will get seriously injured from a bench clearing brawl on the court. To her, it's all about skin color. She brought it up out of nowhere. If you play like thugs and bullies, that's what you'll get called, no matter what your skin color is.

I listened to the same interview but didn't come away with your opinion. Sports journalists should not be calling those girls the names that were overheard by others. She has every right to be offended. I saw her as defending her team which I would expect.

I want to say this again clearly I am not a Staley fan for a lot of the same reasons you and others aren't as well. However in fairness she was asked the question and she answered it and I agreed with her defending her kids and her style of play.

I don't understand why people have to attack female athletes or athletes period because of the style they play and connect that to character. What other reason would it be besides that? Just like a clip from the Sue and Diana show they are doing. Sue Bird said that Johnson from LSU needs Mulkey to add a discipline to her game and i do not understand that at all. To me she is being herself and she should be allowed to do that. We could say the same thing about Caitlin, Paige, and Sabrina. But no they got called generational stars. It's wild!!!! you can just see it year after year.

Boys do not get talked about in these ways, it's just womens sports and it is crazyyyy. Regardless of what we say we cannot say how Dawn feels. We have not heard this comments, we have not been in her shoes, we have not had the entire country watching every move we make. It's easy to say this own a board. But you wouldn't have a open conversation to really understand the details of her why. Her athletes have to cover their faces because ESPN
and Sports News replayed that crying video of Boston all last year. We will never know exactly how they feel. She answered the question she was asked. I support what she said and hopefully we can see growth in this because it is hurting the game from growing. Basketball has so many different ways you can play it. Geographically West Coast style is not like the South. We just need to enjoy the game and stop using terms like thugs to describe athletes because it is demeaning to the human beings character.
