Lots of basketball observations from the first game. Much to be excited about with this team, much remains to be improved. But nothing else matters right now except Jana, and the news on her injury.
For those who didn't see the play, Jana was running on a fast break as a trailer in the 2nd half. As she entered the lane, the bucket was made, and she started to decelerate. She felt something in her lower left leg after a step; she hopped and then went to the ground holding her upper left shin. There was no contact with anyone else, she wasn't jumping or cutting, and there wasn't anything awkward or off balance about her steps; something just popped. The injury could be in the left knee, or could be something related to the left tibia. She was assisted off the floor and to the locker room.
Jana graduated in May, and is using her 5th year of eligibility to attend graduate school and play one final year. She's an important part of this team with her talent and energy and positive leadership. She's a key part of the rotation, set up for meaningful minutes. Praying that all the offseason work and hopes for a great season don't get killed in Game 1.
