If I had any doubts about this Lady Bear team, it was quickly rendered mute by their performance this
afternoon. Couldnt be happier with what I saw from them. Surely other fans felt like me. We may have a better team than most of us thought. Sic 'em Ladies.

Maybe not as surprising to some, but certainly satisfying. I do think their best days are ahead of them and hosting the first two rounds in March is still on the table. A lot of basketball still to play.

I think that's the really exciting thing to me. We're good now, but we have the ability to get A LOT better as the season progresses. If we can stay injury free and peak at right time, could have a lengthy stay in NCAA tourney….

They looked great. Their problem, however, is they have no answer when the shots go cold. And they are all either hitting or all cold as ice. This is going to be our problem down the stretch. Need to keep developing inside game (Vonleh is great). We will know much more when we play the likes of TCU or Kst.

I don't know that i think ALL our shooters go cold at the same time, so not sure I agree that this is our issue. I think it has been slow starts and foul trouble impacting our depth, being one expected player down due to Jana's season ending injury.

We didn't take half of the first quarter to get our offense ignited in this game, and so WE were the first team to jump out. Had KU reeling a little and off their game. The lead we built up allowed us to survive flurry by KU at the end. (My pet peeve is not finishing strong when we get a significant lead!)

I'm not saying you are wrong and maybe poor shooting is what has started us out slowly, but all our starters are scorers, so I feel like we get scores, we just don't maximize those scores sometimes by giving away silly turnovers or having too many one and done possessions where we should have had an offensive putback.

Regardless, we didn't have those negative plays last night and we shot pretty well, so glad we can both come on here and debate as fans what we're afraid MIGHT happen or what we believe has HAPPENED IN THE PAST and still be talking about HOW GOOD THEY LOOKED LAST NIGHT because they didn't do that stuff we worry about, eh!

Keep posting and let's keep debating, because it means we're paying attention.

Sic'em!

(The all caps are not yelling, just stressing the idea….)

The shooting did include a number of lay-ups and inside shots as I recall, even beyond the 16 inside points from Vonleh and 8 from Buggs. 23 assists shows that the offense was more than just some hot shooting, but they were moving the ball around well and getting good shots. By contrast, Kansas only had 9 assists.

But even more than the shooting, the defensive effort was there - 11 blocks (vs. 2 for KU), and winning the turnover battle 11-8. I bet we win most games when we hold the opponent to 66 points, especially on the road. Pretty impressive considering KU shot 30 FT's. We also out-rebounded Kansas 44-37, limiting them to 7 offensive rebounds on 39 missed shots.

I do think part of the mid-4th quarter issues were that Sarah got tired, playing 38 minutes with Jada being in foul trouble. Also, Jennings is not quite ready for prime time against quality competition. Maybe she will get there, but she is not there yet. Or maybe it was because they had both Jennings and Bartley in at the same time, with 3 starters in foul trouble, that allowed the brief KU 4th quarter surge. A good time-out by CNC I thought to get Jada back in the game.

At least in my opinion, the team needs to work on maintaining the same defensive intensity while fouling a bit less. A fine line, but one area of needed improvement.

Yes, that is disappointing, but the 5 on the floor when the lead dropped from 30 to 19 is not the same 5 on the floor that built the lead up to 30. But this is not unexpected when that happens. How many games do you remember when Kim was here that we would have 30-40 point leads. She would put the subs in and then 5 minutes later put the starters back in because the subs were sloppy and let the lead dwindle.

If foul trouble is the reason for the substitutions that should be alleviated a bit when Matharu actually plays. My understanding is that she still needed to be medically cleared (no reason to think that is nothing more than a formality), and that is why she did not see the floor in a blowout. That also puts a consistent scorer on the floor (based on her history).

Not having Buggs on the floor makes a huge difference. She was swooping rebounds right out of Hawkette's hands. Rebounding falls off drastically when she's on the bench. She was one of several who got into foul trouble and had to sit out; KS took advantage of poor protection under the basket.
