Other Notes

With just over three minutes remaining in the first half against ASU, star forward Darianna Littlepage-Buggs (Jr.) was attempting to get positioning for an offensive rebound when Arizona State guard Kennedy Fauntleroy (Jr.) shoved Baylor’s star forward and threw a punch.

Littlepage-Buggs retaliated and shoved back, but both were ejected shortly after. In just 13 minutes of action, Littlepage-Buggs had 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting and five rebounds and was well on her way to her conference-leading ninth double-double.

Per head coach Nicki Collen, there is no appeals process in this scenario, and because the officials deemed it a fight, Littlepage-Buggs will be suspended for the Utah game.

Top Quotes

Head coach Nicki Collen gives the latest update regarding Darianna Littlepage-Buggs’ (Jr.) status following an ejection against Arizona State:

  • “There is no appeals process. At this point, Buggs is suspended for the next game. Really disappointed with the ruling. Really, really proud of how Buggs handled herself. … I don’t know what Buggs could have done better than turn and run.”

Head coach Nicki Collen on winning back-to-back games on the road:

  • “I just think one game at a time, and that certainly was our goal. Nothing’s easy in this league, and I’m so grateful for each of the wins and that we’re healthy. I’m proud of how we focused and got the job done, even though there were a lot of things that we could do better and a lot of ways that we could grow. I still think it was a really good experience on the road for us.”

Center Kyla Abraham (Jr.) on the team stepping up without Littlepage-Buggs:

  • “The biggest thing we’ve been talking about is everyone needs to pull more weight rebounding-wise. We know how big of a factor Buggs is for us rebounding. The biggest thing we’re hounding on is everyone needs to pull more weight and crash the boards.”

Really disappointed in this. If Buggs gets a one-game suspension for her actions in this, the ASU player should get multiple games.

AND......the entire referring crew should get put on the bench for multiple games. I have never seen a game where the physicality was where it was (on both sides) and whistles were kept overly silent. They greatly contributed to this situation to arise because they didn't keep the overt physicality under control. It wasn't a case of letting them play.

I assume the injured Utah player will still be out, so that mitigates it somewhat.

After listening to the interview, any speculation on whether a team will try to goad Buggs into another "fight" to put her on the bench for the rest of the season? This really sucks. She didn't deserve a suspension for what went on and now she has really got to not react to the crap she endures inside.

Ruling sucks and is wrong but Buggs did retaliate by shoving her. Not saying it wasn't justified, it was. Just gotta turn around and walk away. As hard that it is in that situation. Sucks that it's the Utah game as that's easily the hardest of the 3 game road trip. Need Madison to step up as well as Kyla

The ASU player threw 2 punches, the second to the face. ASU should sit her an additional game like BG after the Texas Tech game. Unfortunately that doesn't make us feel any better about Buggs.

I asked about that on the premium board as she is listed here as a starter. Utah said they figured she would miss at least 3 games maybe 4 after the injury at Iowa St. She is at least the 2nd or 3rd best player on their team.

Yes we need a very good crowd for this game. These ladies really need our support.

Agreed; it's a shame so many stopped supporting when CKM left.

It is too bad. There were some who were fans of Kim rather than the team and stopped supporting Wbb when she left. They are missing some very good basketball and getting to know and watch some very talented young women.

Their choice, nothing anyone can do about it.

They should take into consideration that Buggs was being pummeled and she has a rigtht to defend herself from further injury or harm, ! Did Buggs take a swing or just use defensive moves to push her back and away >

Notice Fauntleroy pushing Buggs several times under the basket before Yaya got the ball. That should have been called before it escalated. I think when Buggs came around her she was getting frustrated with getting mugged, but she wasn't even looking in Fauntleroy's direction when they bumped.

Fontleroy took a forearm toward Buggs throat, which can be a serious injury. Buggs pushed her away. The AsU player then swung at Buggs. It's a stupid rule, bad judgement on the part of the officials (on lots of levels)and it makes Buggs susceptible to harassment the rest of the season. Not a good situation but if anyone can handle it, it's Buggs.
