Hey DFWBill....if SMU let's Toyelle go, do you think she might return here as an assistant? She was a very good recruiter here at one time.

Yes, for six years she was a terrific recruiter, she helped along with Sytia recruit the 2019 National Champion team. I doubt she would return to Waco, but there is no harm in asking. We need a top notch recruiter., especially in Texas and the southwest.

30-2 is a great record but SOS is like 268

They might have been left out had they lost the conference champ game

Not the kind of publicity she probably wants but flattering nonetheless. Headline seems a little sexist but the article isn't. lol

They didn't play a ranked opponent all season. And beat Texas Arlington by 3 in the Championship Game. Great coach, and likely a solid team. But not sure you can say they have been tested. Haven't looked hard at their schedule, but not sure they played another tournament team this year.

Looks like their only opponents who made the NCAAs are Liberty (79-50 win) and Oregon (70-54 loss). Their only other loss was to Middle Tennessee (57-47), who tied Liberty for the C-USA title but lost in their tournament championship.

Common opponents:

Arizona (GCU 69-66, BU 81-76)
Ariz St (GCU 70-59, BU 78-59)
E Texas A&M (GCU 110-71, BU 104-35)
Utah Tech (GCU 78-43, 74-42, 71-47, BU 97-34)

GCU also swept Bill Brock's Tarleton St 57-53 and 76-60.

GCU's leading scorer is named Trinity San Antonio. No word if they have any other players named after small liberal arts colleges in Texas, like McMurry Abilene or Southwestern Georgetown.

About right. I expect a solid 15-30 point win. There's rarely ever any significant 1st rd upsets in the woman's bracket. That Rd if 32 game will be a war

Catching up on this conversation.

Regarding CNC going back to the W-- Even with higher WNBA coaching salaries, I can' imagine they compete with her current salary here.

Regarding SMU being a Christian school: I believe it is a Christian school. But anyone who only wants to work at a Christian school probably doesn't believe it is.

Coaching in the W and coaching at the NCAA level are completely different. If she prefers the W, I see it. But I also don't think that she does. I also don't expect an NBA team to come looking at her as an assistant, though with her basketball IQ weirder things have happened. But I think she would be much more likely for that than returning to the W. The W just doesn't seem like a fun job.

Last year there was only ONE upset in the first round. MTSU over Louisville in Baton Rouge. I could see maybe a few 8/9 or 7/10 matchups being close but it should be close to chalk.

Iowa Bear… I have read some interviews with Miller, she is a devote Christian and will not go to Missouri or any state school. TCU and Baylor have Coaches, SMU is a potential fit, they have financial backing of big time boosters starting with Steve Miller, who is the reason they got into the ACC. In the last few years he has given the school over $150,000,000. and also raised himself $100,000,000. from fellow Alumni.
Grand Canyon doesn't have a player that would start for Baylor. Molly is only 38, she has a great future and I think her next stop will be her last.
When did SMU become a Christian school?
never

Good get for the program. She'll do a lot of good with some NIL money. That said - she had five seniors and 6 grad transfers on the roster. Only four players who weren't going to graduate. So it will be a different environment. But a solid hire from a program that has needed a spark for some time.

She's a good coach. Her teams play hard for her. The entire conference only gets better with the hiring of good coaches. It won't be easy for her as she's gonna have to rebuild, but the transfer portal can make that rebuild time much shorter than historically required.

Transfer portal changes everything! But competition will be bigger. And there will be more of a light on her. But agree, it's great for the conference. Don't love the timing of the announcement. Let the team get home at least. But also get that the world we live in rewards outlets that are first to break the news.

Yeah, some of the timing of new coaching hire announcements don't sit well but I'm guessing it probably has something to do with the transfer portal opening Tuesday. Still, seems like you could have waited until at least tomorrow night or Sunday but I have no idea what all was going on behind the scenes.

With openings at Arkansas, Arizona State, BYU and Missouri, it seemed likely she would be moving on. Mizzou went with Kellie Harper, which is a pretty big name. Arkansas announced the hiring of the Oral Roberts coach a few hours prior to the news Molly was headed to ASU. The BYU job is still open.

Arizona pays Barnes $1.2 million a year. Arizona State was paying their old coach $675K. I would not be surprised if Molly is getting at least $750K.

Good opportunity for Molly…plus a no brainer. Her family doesn't have to uproot…a short drive between campuses.

I hope we continue to beat MM teams.

Not throwing shade at CNC just expressing interest in MM. She was a "person of interest"; however, Rhoades doubtfully considered her seriously… kinda like considering Briles out of Stephenville (fortunately UH gave him cred).

Obviously, Proof will be in the Puddin', it'll be interesting and fun to see if she rises and becomes successful in the Big12. It's a big jump and recruiting, as always, will be the test.

And for whatever it's worth, my bridge is burned with Kim. Whatever BU could "control" while at Baylor has spilled over the levy now and it's unsavory. STILL, she can Coach. I'm just interested to see if MM can do the same.
Flame on if you like.
