I think she is going to the perfect team for her talents and level of defense.

The style is fitting in a sense they run & gun. But from what I've seen of OU they share the ball incredibly well. Very balanced offensively. She's gonna have to pass the ball in their offense.

I was referring to run and gun with lots of 3s but yes, you are correct. They used to not be strong defensively, but I do not know about now since I haven't watched them since they left.

Sometimes, being the biggest fish in a smaller pond gives you an inflated opinion of yourself. She's about to start a new level with already established athletes who know the routines, workouts, each other, coach's expectations, etc. If she comes in too big for her britches, she won't get help from her teammates and might find herself struggling in the day to day. That could be really humbling, really quickly. And college coaches don't have the same constraints that high school coaches do, so parents may not have the same influence.

I think it will be interesting to watch, but I won't be surprised if she doesn't figure out her attitude will need to change. Has the potential to be really successful and time will tell.

If I was a coach at a top program, parental involvement that interfered with the team would be a hard no for me.

I used to coach competitive softball. There was a guy who coached a good team who made the comment at a tournament one time a long time ago......."I am going to go get a bus, take it over to Buckner's Childrens Home and get me a team. That way I don't have to deal with the d**n parents". Lot of truth in that statement.

True. I coached a bit and ultimately had to get out due to a parent's displeasure with me, (and who BTW, never, ever came and spoke to me personally). But youth leagues and public schools are not collegiate level where the athletes are getting paid and there are no guarantees. Just saying, time will tell. Is it wrong of me to say, if you are right, and she is a perpetual pain in the backside of OU's program, I won't be sad?… <evil grin>

Money is less of a problem than players' and their parents' egos and unrealistic expectations.

Chavez is a ball hog and high volume shooter. She demands the team revolve around her. She wants to be center of attention. She could be very good assist player since she attracts a lot of attention, but she wants the ball all the time and not pass it. Her defense is her weaknesses, needs a lot of work. She will be playing against physical and fast SEC teams every game every week. Those players will be motivated to target her due to her big ego and demanded the big bucks.

A lot of these Chavez posts seem like wishful thinking to me. I think she'll be a great player. But we'll see...

They won the state championship and she didn't score as much as she normally did.

Yes, she will be a great player, no doubt. The comments are coming from analysts, people she played with/against, and fans who know her. I'm sure she will be making adjustments at college level where competition will be much tougher. It will be interesting to see how she gets along with her new teammates. I am looking forward seeing her play against top teams.
