Indiana Fever signs Odyssey Sims to a Hardship Contract after season ending injuries to guards Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald

I was surprised Dallas cut Sims - she seemed to have found a rhythm with the wings.

I wish her well and hope she has a good productive remainder of the WNBA Season with the Fever

Thanks for the info. I was hoping she'd found a home with the Wings, as well, but glad she's getting a salary and playing time somewhere in WNBA

I have been surprised that she has become a spare part in the W.She still plays well when given a chance.

Same. It seems that when she is on a roster for an extended period of time, she has flashes of greatness surrounded by long periods of slog. But then she thrives on short-term contracts.

The last time she was with the Wings, there was talk about offering her a contract the next year after she did so well. Not sure what happened as she moved on, perhaps a salary issue. Wings management has made lots of questionable decisions. I'm sure she likes being back in Texas.

Once again, Odyssey is thriving on a short-term contract. Last night she had 19pts, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds in the Fever's win over the Sun.

Odyssey has always had a fire in her belly....I can't for the life of me understand why WNBA Coaches and GM's can't see how valuable that is to have on a team, and it does not look like age has tempered her fire.
Good for you Odyssey - Wishing her continued success !!

Looks like Sims is going to be kept by the Fever
Rumor mill is that Clark is returning soon so one of the two guards signed by the Fever have to be released.
The Fever just announced that Kyra Lambert has been released (after signing just last week) so that means it is looking like Sims will finish the season with the Fever.
Glad to see the Fever make a good decision for once.

Odyssey Sims had 22 points on 8-14 shooting and 6 assists, to help the Indiana Fever top the Seattle Storm 95-75 tonight.

Big "O" has played very well in every game. It's great to see her do so well vs the youngsters !!
I wonder what she did to keep in shape and to keep her game during the time away from the W

If you follow her on Instagram, you'll see that she is ALWAYS in the gym practicing, often with a trainer. It feels like she has made a career out of just staying in shape, staying connected, and stepping in on short-term hardship contracts. I'm not sure how she survives on such a meager salary, though.

GOOD INFO. I am a dinosaur and not a fan of social media and I miss a lot of information like this - Thanks for posting

Note Odyssey second-fastest player in Fever history to make 50+ points and 25+ assists.

Odyssey had 21 tonight, on 10-20 shooting as the Indiana Fever edged the LA Sparks 75-74. She has continued playing at a high level when given the opportunity.

I'm sure LA is regretting letting Odyssey go earlier this season. Not only did she hit the game-tying 3 with a little under a minute to go, but then she hit the game-winner with 13 seconds left.

And now LA is on the brink of being eliminated from the playoff chase.

Talk about a move backfiring on a team.

She gets hardship contracts, which allows a team to temporarily "fill in" when players are out for injury or personal leave. Once the player comes back, the hardship fill in is let go to stay in roster and salary limits. She appears to be safe at Fever, as two major players out for season. Notably Sydney Colson, who was a particularly nasty player for aggettes when they beat Odyssey and BG in the NCAA in 2011, en route to Natty. In today's games, she would have been thrown out several times for taunting.

The good news: Odyssey and the Fever received a much more favorable matchup in the first round (they will play against Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream at 2 pm today on ABC).

The bad news: Las Vegas lurks as a potential round 2 opponent, should Indiana manage to get past Atlanta in their best-of-3 series.

For all of the talk about Napheesa Collier and the Minnesota Lynx being on a mission to win the title (after coming up just short last year), it seems to me that Vegas is the most dangerous team in the league at the moment.

They are currently riding a 16-game winning streak (haven't lost since August 2), and I feel the new finals format (best of 7) favors them more, given they have had fewer health problems compared to the other key contenders.

Plus, they are absolutely stacked:

A'ja Wilson
Chelsea Gray
Jackie Young
Jewel Loyd
Nalyssa Smith (who is actually meshing well with her new squad)

While it's the playoffs, and anything can happen - it feels like Vegas should actually be the favorite to win it all (and not Minnesota).

Wasn't the greatest of shooting nights for Odyssey, but the Fever took the game over in the 2nd Half tonight and forced a 3rd and deciding game on Thursday.

Winner will likely get Vegas in the next round.

Indy closes out Atlanta by scoring the final 7 points. So Sims, who played well including a dime to Boston to go ahead by 1 with 7 seconds left, advances.Griner was not on the floor at crunch time.

The Indiana Fever advance after winning 87-85 on the road.

Odyssey with the game-winning assist to Aliyah Boston with 7.4 seconds left.

She finished with 16 points and 8 assists.

Vegas on the ropes after a Skylar Diggins 3.

Down 1 with 1:14 left.

This would be a HUGE upset!
LTBear19

Still down 1 with 18.7 seconds left.

Seattle could be one defensive stop away from pulling off the massive upset.

Look for Wilson to get the ball here.

Vegas survives 74-73.

Seattle forgets to block out Jackie Young's put-back layup with 12.4 seconds left after Wilson missed a jumper.

Seattle's game-winning attempt by Erica Wheeler is too hard off the back iron, and Seattle doesn't get a second attempt before the buzzer goes off.

Can't forget about those fundamentals. Sometimes, overlooking them can cost you your season - in ANY sport.

Well, we've got Indy at Vegas on Sunday afternoon.

Why are people saying she's injured?

She played 28 minutes on Thursday and didn't appear to be injured at the end when they won.

In the last minute of the game she was driving to the basket and was knocked to the floor and hurt her shoulder.
The game was stopped while medical people attended her.
Most of the media and fan attention has been directed to the confrontation with Cunningham and Clark and the police officer at half court. as they were trying to get on the court to look after Simms

Looks like the incident happened around the mid-way point of the 3rd quarter.

The broadcaster said she was holding her right shoulder at the time.

However, the good news is that she's a lefty, and it didn't appear that the hit impacted her ability to play well for the remainder of the game. At least there wasn't any noticeable discomfort from her down the stretch.

Perhaps there could be some lingering pain that she is dealing with behind the scenes, but I doubt it'll keep her sidelined.

She's a tough cookie (always has been), and my guess is it will take a lot more than that to keep her from playing in the semifinals.

I will have to agree with you that O is one tough cookie - I agree it would have to be dislocated and even then the training staff would have to hide her uniform and take her shoes away from her to keep her off the court.

Looks like Odessey is OK - played over 30 minutes, put up 17 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. Not a bad nights work !!
