This was a very winnable game against a young Iowa team. It is shocking to me that Nikki didn't have them ready to attack a zone. We looked completely lost and just started jacking 3's. And to not score a point for the last 6 min of the game? Come on coaching staff. Call some plays.

Buggs was the most disappointing tonight. To be honest, her lack of development tells me all I need to know.

Let's hope Scott never fouls out. This might be a very long season if we can't find some other scorers.

Buggs is a very good player. She had an off night. It happens.

Wow I love my lady Bears and I was really feeling good about the season and a #7 ranking. Clearly Duke was fools gold.and we are a one trick pony . We will win more than we lose but it is not goi g to be a pretty season.

Defensively we are better than past years. Offensively, yikes. Plenty of chances. Great player but, Buggs seems to really struggle on offense when we play someone good. I do think CNC will make improvements in our offense so it can be more balanced. I do agree that we need help at the point guard position. JV is not quick enough post injury and teams sag off of her, daring her to try to score.

Poor ole Duke has proven to be a Fluke again. Losing for the third time to USF by 13........And their next two games are back to back against #2 SC & #5 LSU . If they could pull a rabbit out of their hat and somehow manage to win one of those it could practically save their season. LOL

Duke was never top 10 good!! ChiBear had a full on meltdown in the Duke game thread because I pointed that out prior to tip off. Pre season rankings mean nothing! Duke might actually be worse than I thought. U still said after the game it'll end up being a good win at seasons end. Not sure anymore.
Whatever you do, don't criticize Duke. Chibears will melt

As BearFan 33 said, the defense is clearly better than in previous years. Also. We have never had a player who can score like Taliah. We do need help at point guard but not sure where help will come from right now. Our other point guards, Ella and Nez are injured. Hopefully we can get them back after 1st of year.

Last night's game was not good. We should have beaten Iowa. Darianna definitely had an off night and didn't play up to her standard. However to say she has not developed is crazy. The girl had an off night; it happens to all players. Bella and Kyla were in foul trouble most of game which didn't help. KJ didn't play much. After UNLV game Nicki said she was not feeling well. One positive is that Kayla had some good minutes.

One bad game against a very good team does not change my mind that this can be an Elite 8 team.

Scott is tremendous, not taking anything from her. However, she is gonna have games where the shot is not falling and we will then have no one to go to.

Buggs and Bella are what they are at this point.

Buggs game is still the same, and hasn't progressed much if we're being honest.

Bella is always up and down.

The transfers that were hyped up? One can't even sniff the floor and she was considered to be highly touted.

Even if we had one of the PGs back, they wouldn't help much at all.

This is personally why I think we should've went after the best post available and threw the brinks truck. Without a solid post that can put pressure on the defense, we are going to continue to look stagnant.

The offense is pass to Scott and let her bail us out, but even when we look to other players to step up, they are inconsistent.

Something has to be implemented to generate better offense. If not, teams are gonna key in on Scott and force the others to win the game, and we do not have a true #2,3, or 4 that we can depend on at this point.

What!?

Odyssey Sims says hi.

And we're nowhere NEAR being an Elite 8 squad based on what we've seen thus far.

Think it's time we reset expectations at this point.

Moving forward, our goal should be to finish well enough where we can earn a 5 or 6 seed in the NCAA's, because we're probably not gonna host this year.

Maybe with the right matchup, we can pull off a 2nd round upset on someone's homecourt and make the Sweet 16 that way.

But as things stand right now, everyone should probably prepare themselves for some frustrating losses in the future - starting with what will likely be a Texas beat down on December 14.

This is ONE game! If play doesn't improve, I will change my expectations for the season but not after a 5 point loss to a very good team.

But it isn't just one game.

They were sloppy in the Duke game.

Sloppy in the Lindenwood game.

Beyond sloppy in the UNLV game.

And just flat-out terrible against Iowa last night. Who by the way, didnt play all that well either.

This isn't a one-off. This sloppy play is becoming a troubling pattern that will likely rear its ugly head again in conference play if the coaching staff doesn't fix some things quickly.

Having said that, we probably needed this reality check.

Folks on here were pumping the team up after that win over a mediocre Duke squad, and treating it like they had knocked off UCONN or South Carolina.

There was all this bragging about how we were the #7 team in the country, when in all actuality, we probably deserve to be in the #20 - #25 range at the moment.

Doesn't mean we can't turn things around or are stuck there. There's still time to right the ship.

But if we don't establish a better offensive game plan moving forward, then yes, we should probably lower expectations for the season. A lot!

Really thought Bella and Buggs would be more reliable scorers this year. Maybe it will come, but it better come fast. Some of Bella's 3's never got above the rim. Hard to go in with zero arc.

I get why CNC is still trying to figure out where Deng fits. She can shoot - but her defense is borderline awful.
Agree that Deng probably should have been the answer to flash the high post when Iowa went zone.
Buggs had multiple wide open 15 footers and just laid brick after brick.

This team has some good pieces and Iowa seems to always be tough in WBB, so I don't think there's reason to get overly discouraged.

I am, however, still confused about one thing. Last year every time I asked about the constant brick laying we did from the outside, I was told the whole season would have been different if Van Gytenbeek had not gotten hurt because she was money from the outside. I've watched five games so far, and all I've seen is one brick after another. Hopefully she's just in a slump.

I did not agree with you, certainly. I'll own that. But a full on meltdown? Please. That statement is way more full of drama than my post.

I respect your opinion and love that you are passionate about WBB. I do not have to agree with everything you present to be passionate and knowledgeable myself, and I have a right to express that strongly as you sometimes express your opinions.

I still think, based on all preseason info, that Duke's preseason ranking made sense and that was my point. I mean, preseason rankings pretty much HAVE to be based on last year's performance+retention+additions, and on paper, Duke looked to be in a position of strength. I agreed that they were not backing it up and deserved to slip in the rankings (and said that then).

And I do still think they will finish higher than you and others believe they will, but I could very well be wrong. It's basketball after all, and the season is long. We shall all see, and can revisit at the end of the season. If I'm dreadfully wrong, my ego can handle saying I got it really wrong.

And it's ChiBears2. There is another poster who is ChiBears. They probably don't want you ragging them for my post.

Jana has obviously not yet been the player she was before the injury. Some players are never the same after an ACL injury. Hopefully Jana can improve as season progresses.

hopefully will Ella comes back she gives us a PG that can score. I think We started to find ways to get Bella going off the Curl but she got into foul trouble. Bench minutes have not been bad tonight in my opinion.

It appears Ella isn't putting weight on her leg, using the scooter. Not sure if she'll be able to help out any time soon.
