SALT LAKE CITY – No. 18 Baylor women’s basketball (15-3, 4-1) takes its winning streak on the road to play the Utah Utes (13-4, 4-1). Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The game will be televised on ESPN+.

The Utes' ability to find open players and shoot the 3-point shot makes their offense capable of knocking off high-ranked teams. This was evident less than two weeks ago, when Utah upset the No. 8 TCU Horned Frogs. Utah also does not allow free points. Head coach Gavin Petersen’s deep drop coverage allows Utah to avoid defensive fouls and gather defensive rebounds, but the lack of ball pressure removes the opportunity to force large amounts of turnovers.

Up by 2 with 4 left in 2nd.

We've had our chances to pull away but like 0-8 on our last shots. Scott is ice cold

Both teams cooled off at the same time after a hot start for both. Bears up 2

Everyone will play to let main players rest with altitude. She's wearing a brace.

Ines & Kiera on the floor together in the 1st half.....didn't have that on my bingo card tonight

Baylor 35-24 at the halfway point.

10-0 run to end the 1st half.

Good move by CNC to have both KJ and Nelms in at the same time.

When that move was made, we went on an 8-0 run those last 2 minutes and finally got a bit of separation.

Having both out there together put a little more stress on Utah's post players, and we had 5 outside shooters on the floor at once (Scott, JVG, Deng, KJ, Nelms).

Worked out because both Scott and KJ hit some timely three's.

We've played 'em about even to start the 3rd quarter, but CNC should go back to this lineup again in the 2nd half to keep wearing down Utah's post players and grow the lead.

Lead's creeped up to 16 now midway thru the 3rd.

After a slow start to the qtr, we've hit 5 of our last 6.

Utah looks winded.

One more mini-run should just about put the game away.

We got cold and they got to the line. We settling for jumpers and ill advised drives. Up by 10 1 min left in third

Every game we seem to get a lot of illegal screen calls against us.

Protecting the ball pretty well but getting turnovers that way.

I don't understand why CNC will not play Nelms in place on Abraham, or with her. When Abraham is the sole post, she is a liability on offense; tonight she has missed multiple shots close to the basket and forever gets called for the moving screen. Nelms is a better all around player and proved it during the last game.

Up by 12 going into the 4th. Buggs with a nice move in the paint and hits a short jumper

We are frustrating Utah with pretty darn good defense and they are a bit turnover prone.

They are staying in it by good offensive rebounding.

Scott has gone cold, and yet is not following her shot in for the rebound.

Deng comes in and make two quick jumpers; thank-goodness, because the rest of the team has gone cold.

Deng with 4 points to stretch the lead to 14. Such a pretty jumper. Buggs got another foul and got emotional and had to go to bench. She plays hard all the time

They returning to the line for 2

A good win; congratulations to the women for an outstanding defense! As in previous years, CNC's coaching resonates with the players and the team shows overall improvement as the season progresses. Well done!

This was a really good win for us, our defense is maybe the best in league right now, along with wvu. Our offense looks good, when we share and move.

The illegal screens are killing us

one other thing i noticed is when marcayla is in the game our offense doesn't look like it's getting anywhere, am i the only one to see this?

Boy, Utah's roster is extremely slow. How did they beat TCU?

Several posters who used to post, but no longer, at least not by the same name, told us time and time again that CNC didn't value defense. That didn't age well.

Marcayla is having trouble making shots. I hope and suspect that will improve as time goes on.

I love our team effort and our work on defense. But, sometimes Chick ball is hard to warch...6:10 min without a point was difficult for all involved. At least we worked hard on D and then began to pull away slowly.

"Chick" ball is no harder to watch then when our men go for stretches longer than 6:10 and then have a chance to break the drought and some idiot, who having a wide open layup, decides to try to be on Sportscenter and throws down a dunk that ricochets off the back iron to near mid court and the drought continues on for who knows how long.

"CNC doesn't value defense" would be an exaggeration for sure, but this year is far and away the best defensive team she has had at Baylor. Hopefully that continues to be a calling card for the future.
