Turn overs seem to be the best thing they do and it definitely ain't our point guards by themselves doing it.
Yes, JVG was not doing well today and Ines was out of her league. Why is Ella Brow staying on the bench? She couldn't possibly do any worse.

And tell me why Abraham saw very little time today. West Va. absolutely killed us at the basket. Layups and rebounds galore.

I blame this one on the coach. She didn't have an answer for anything.

To some degree yes but you cant blame 30 turnover on coaching .

At least….ball handling by PGs and the whole team.

You realize they had won 8 in a row and 9 out of 10 before today right? Funny time to ask such a stupid question.

We have had good schemes in the past for breaking presses. A few years ago against UT we had little problem. But this year our guard talent in beating a press was not as good and of course UT's is off the charts. WVU excels in their press defense. That covers a lot of their other weaknesses. Unfortunately our weakness has to go against their strength. Only UT can match the press we saw today of the team's we have played and will play the remainder of the conference.

CNC in her postgame flat out said they just did not execute the game plan they had worked on. Some times you just need to tip your hat to your opponent. They have done that to people all year. WVU is a good team. They really should have only 1 conference loss. TCU had to hit a 3 at the buzzer to beat them by 1 and they couldn't hit the ocean in a close loss to Tech. tOSU team that is ranked 11 only beat them by 2.

We did not play at best. It would have been a great win, but it didn't happen.

I agree with your post that our talent against pressure is not as good.We had Jada running point who had elite speed and could blow past defenders and split double teams(and yes we had good schemes).Good observation about UT's strength.

This bunch has won 8 in a row and that's true. Your stupid if you don't see that it has been a major pattern with this team all year and it finally caught up to them today. Yet...they just can't seem to figure it out. It is so uncalled for.

Of course turnovers are on coach, She was to have a plan to break press. She was to have them able to execute. I love her so much, but, man, try the freshman, try the water girl, try anything but the same thing that was not working 30 times. They had watched so much film on JVG, they knew better than she did where she was going to stop and turn. JVG was exhausted. Have to rotate on a press like that. Freshman was faster, more athletic and eager to solve the situation. She was brought in too late. Ines was better than JVG. Brow couldn't have done worse than record breaking turnovers. There are ways to break a press. If JVG has 2 girls on her somewhere, someone is open.

This team, as a whole, are awful against ball pressure. Listening to CNC post game…good prep, good game plan…didn't execute the plan. Watch how we started the game…we used the pass to break the press..it looked easy, I was pleasantly surprised actually. Then, too soon the wheels come off. Panic when pressure comes, leading to rushed poor decisions. It wasn't just one or two players, all of them. To me, MJ was the one player that seemed to match the WV quickness and intensity. I think one would expect you primary point players to be the better at handling pressure…ours just weren't. My main pregame concern was ball pressure and how Ines and JVG would fair…they were no better than anyone else, and in most cases worse. Ines came in and immediately turned the ball over at least twice then got pulled. Why Brow wasn't given a shot is a good question. Or anyone else for that matter. Missed open shots, and the dreaded layup. Bigs getting beat on both ends. On occasion, even good passes would get fumbled and picked up by WV. The pressure gets us panicked, rushed and thrown off script. The plan, prep and adjustments are on the coaches. Players have to execute

Every game has been TO terrible. Jana, 69, Taliah 67, Dari, 61..next highest is 37. When both pt. guards are your worst offenders what can you expect. The only reason at this point is DEFENCE.

Actually it's because the point guards handle the ball far more than the other players on the court. You can ignore that fact if you like but you will be ignoring the truth.

And Jana & Taliah are on the court 32 mins per game each, far more than the other players.

More nonsense talking points covering for your pal.

Didi Richards played her Senior season at PG. Not her natural position. First year playing the position.
She had 74 turnovers through 30 games and was third on the team in turnovers (Smith & Egbo lead team in turnovers, the expected results as posts who play high minutes almost always lead in that stat).

JVG has 69 turnovers in only 23 games and is a sixth year Senior who has never played another position.

spin your nonsense elsewhere to people dumb enough to believe it.

blackie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You can't compare JVG to Didi. Didi started out and was always a better player than JVG regardless of position. No one should deny that. The fact is we don't have anyone on the team right now that can handle the ball at an elite level against an elite full court press. That is why I find this entire thread so pointless. We know what we have and we know what we don't have. And whether it is x, y, or z playing the position we have the same weakness. No need to disparage any player or coach. You either have those abilities or you don't and it is just like you can't coach speed, I suspect you really can't coach quickness, either. It is there or its not.

I am certain without doubt the staff looks for and wants an elite ball handler. But wanting and being able to get are two completely different things. Recruiting alone no longer allows you to get who you want. Will Mariah and Ines be able to reach that level? We won't know that until later. Right now they are not there. Ines was in for 3 minutes yesterday with 3 turnovers.

I agree. This point guard play thread is pointless. Jana is the best option we have this year…period. Inez was totally flustered with the press yesterday. But she is coming back from a serious injury and has not played in 1 1/2 years and definitely needs some grace. The staff seems to like her a lot and Nicki said she may be best passer on team. In a year or 2 she may be able to step into starting role. Not sure what is going on with Ella. Maybe she is redshirting.

Marcayla may be another candidate for PG but definitely not this year. I love her energy and defensive play but she still has a lot to learn. She still plays out of control at times and sometimes does not take best shots. The only other possibility I see is to get PG from portal. But this year it is ride or die with Jana. I think Jana will be fine unless we play teams with a heavy press.

I still can't process the inability to handle pressure. We are a top 15 team and we can't dribble past half court? Makes no sense at all. Break the press!

Then you are missing the point.

a head coach that willingly chose to enter the season with a sixth year player (who has never been a true starter in her career, has a really poor career shooting percentage, has questionable athleticism, and is coming off a serious knee injury) penciled in as the starter without any proven backup is crazy.
that the head coach is a former PG and should know the physical demands of the position is even more crazy.

every PG thread is (in effect) a roster construction thread questioning the decision making of the staff.

I can't believe Jana had 30 turnovers vs WVU, but i don't have to tell you, you're a professional, a high and mighty wise professional, looking down on all us poor uneducated peons. Are you still celebrating Baylor's loss yesterday? I know it must have been a euphoric experience for you. Finally some ammunition to fuel your agenda to tear down JVG.

Silly boy.
You still don't understand sports message boards or critiques or tough love.

I would have liked to have been wrong and the team be much better than the message eyeballs clearly told those willing to see.
But the truth is the truth whether you handle it or not.

Helpful Hint: positive thinking, wishing problems to go away, etc. is not how adults handle bad scenarios.
Helpful Hint 2: tough messages aren't personal.
Helpful Hint 3: anyone can bear happy messages. it takes guts to bear bad news.

Do you know for a fact that they didn't try to get a better option? Fact, not speculation. I really doubt that was the plan, especially since they didn't even know how she would return from the injury. Brow may have been the best they could get and she started out injured.

I have no problem with people criticizing coaches, as long as they are dealing in fact, not speculating or pushing an agenda, and have the coaching experience to be qualified to validate their criticism. As close as this staff keeps things inside, I find it beyond reason that they confided in any of us as to what they were trying to do and who they were going after.

When schools like Ga Tech, FSU, UCF, SMU, Notre Dame, Maryland, etc. are being absolutely pillaged for players and Baylor doesn't land a single visit from any starting PG…….not one……folks of average intelligence can read between the lines.

PG is the single most important position in college hoops. Not debatable.
Baylor fans who saw the meltdown against UConn in 2021 when Richards went down can testify.
PG is the primary ball handler, primary on ball defender against the opponent's top creator, the top creator for their team, and pace controller.

TCU did what was necessary.
Kentucky did what was necessary.
Baylor didn't even get a visit to campus.

Speaks volumes.

In 2025-26 we had multiple PGs visit and didn't get any of them.

At different times:
Mia Pauldo (and Mya) visit - early soph or Jr year
Aliyah Crump - she did a group visit but not sure if individual visit
Destiny Jackson visit
Aubrey Beckham visit
Keeley Parks multiple games and visit
Aniya Foy games
Natalya Hodge visit
Brooklyn Haywood visit
Maddyn Greenway - recruited but no visit
Jenica Raine visit
Bella Hines think visit

May be others I don't remember. Know others were recruited but no visit. Anyway, we have tried but no takers.

If only opinions were money, we would have so much NIL money! The negativity drives me bonkers. I don't think there's anything wrong with this team. I support this team because I like the players as human beings. I am confident that they give their best. Their best might suck some days, but that's how it goes for all of us. I support this team because Bella and Buggs are still here and playing for us and I want to honor their loyalty. I support this team because I think CNC and staff are doing a good job. I mean it's not like their record is 3-6 (football) or 2-7 (MBB). I think Baylor women's basketball has consistently done more with less. Let's get ready for the next game.

There's a difference between being negative and being realistic. It's quite possible to both support the team while acknowledging the issues it faces. It's a quite flawed team. One that I'm sure every poster on here still supports. After all this is a Baylor message board

I appreciate loyalty as well.In the rotation we have Nelms in her second year and 4 players including Bella and Buggs in their fourth season here.IMO That makes the lady Bears a team and not just a hired group of players.

Didn't see that in your post. My post is to say we have recruited athletic PGs and some taller PGs in that time period and didn't get any. As far as transfers, the only one I remember was the Lexi Donarski and she was more combo G who visited and committed to UNC right after her visit here. Know we flirted a little with Deja Kelly but never a visit I know of. Think you are right on transfer PGs from what I remember, just not HS PGs.

They do. I replied at midnight after working 8a-12m next day and missed it. Fact is, we had some talented tall athletic guards come in in 24-25 and before and especially if we had gotten any of the earlier guards we would've had experienced athletic tall guards who could do the things you were hoping for similar to a good transfer. . Was that a fail yes, but it wasn't for lack of trying..
