You really just don't seem to know how good Miles is or won't admit it. I've been trying to think for quite a while of a player we have ever had who I would choose over her for the position she plays. Sims might qualify, but that was too long ago to remember for a valid comparison.
It is not only her shooting, it is her elite passing and footwork that makes it doubly hard. While you are trying to foul her going to the basket, usually with a double team having to collapse, she finds the wide-open shooter that is forced to be left open to help on the drive and it doesn't seem to matter how difficult the pass might be. I have seen her do this in every Big XII game I have watched them play. Then you foul her you get to bonus quickly and you have everyone else.....who are also good FT shooters sink one after another when they get fouled in the normal course of play.
Miles doesn't come across as a player that is going to concern herself about getting fouled. She has the confidence to know she is in charge. She'll take her points any way you have to provide them to her.
I'd still rather put that theory to the test.
Everyone is capable of being rattled.
Besides - Utah, Colorado, and Texas Tech managed to win against her, despite Miles going for 30+ in 2 of those 3 contests.
We had 2 cracks at TCU, and weren't close either time.
But we were closer this time :-).......especially since we shot less than 20% from 3 and most of those were not really contested and essentially lost the game in a stretch of a few minutes early when we couldn't make any kind of shot. I would really like to see a game against them when our
open shot percentage was anything close to our norm. We couldn't even get to the FT line.
I didn't watch the Utah and Colorado games except for the last few minutes of Colorado when I thought Campbell made some decisions that I thought cost TCU the game, but Texas Tech pressed them. We saw today when we were able to press them that TCU doesn't handle it much better than we do. Wish we had the roster makeup to be able to press as we did later in the 2nd half and the way the WVU and Tech have been able to do this year for the entire game. But Baylor has never been a pressing team with either CNC or CKM.
I doubt we will get the chance to play them again. I can't see us getting by WVU.....if we get by CO, although I think we have a much better change against CO than we would have had against TT.
