FYI - Carolyn Peck stated that CKM made these comments PRIOR to the ISU game.

Given that ISU had just played 3 games in about 7 days, that had put them at a huge advantage in fitness level and game experience compared to KM's situation, which led to a total lack of cohesiveness on our team's part. And the results were obvious and predictable.

Three games in seven days is a lot for college students. Between studies and travel did they really have time to adequately recover physically or have enough time to prepare for Baylor?

I said this earlier, the recruiting has gone downhill since that younger woman coach left. She was younger and could relate and recruit the high level kids. Now all we get is transfers. Anyone else agree?

Are you talking about toyelle Wilson? And I think Sytia messer is doing great recruiting. If players want to relate to a younger coach then we have Kaylin rice!

Yea, as the current reigning national champions, we have not recruited well in long time. Lol. That must be a joke thread. Kalani no good. LC no good, Smith no good, moon a joke, Jordan Oliver not athletic at all. Man, what planet do you all live on. Talent is not our problem! Experience and covid interrupted season are the issue. Just hang on a moment before you sell the farm. Wow. Silly.

1 - We do not have a great tradition of winning at anything other than women's basketball.
2 - Kim is free to say whatever so wants and no one here or in the "Administration" should ever second guess a championship lady.

You poor thing, did I hurt your little feelings by disagreeing with your whacked out assertion in another post? So now I'm your target...I'm shaking. If you disagree with the statement, or have something to add, then do so. Otherwise, don't be such a tool.

When did the NCAA (or universities) make money from WBB? I love the women's game of basketball but to the NCAA and the vast majority of universities it is a money pit.
Good point, you're right. But the men's March Madness does, and you don't have a men's March Madness without a women's tournament also. Rules

Although the Lady Bears generally have far superior talent to their opponents, this year's team doesn't have the talent upper hand to the extent other Baylor teams have had. What would save us this year is Mulkey's ability to coach and outcoach. She said several times in her ISU post game interview that she basically just let them play-which is all she could do with two weeks without practice. Mulkey is not someone who is happy with a coaching philosophy of just let them play.

So, I think uber-elite coaches like Mulkey who can get 100 percent and more out of her teams, and whose coaching discipline wins games, are more apt to feel that a COVID season isn't worth playing. I am sure it is very frustrating for a controlling coach like Mulkey to say "I just let them play." Hard words for her. She ain't out there to have fun. She is out there to have her team play to perfection and to win every time they suit-up.

I don't think the almighty dollar comment is necessarily right on target though. Fans want to see games...the players are there to play...There is some advantage to continuity in life regardless of how much interruption there is. Some teams may be happy just having fun and just playing. This isn't Mulkey's plan for the Lady Bears.

I'm cutting her slack. Poor woman has just had COVID and walked into the first game and saw her team play about as sloppy as I have ever seen a Mulkey team play. If she is given a chance to coach this time- I think we are still a top 16 team at a minimum. Don't count her out.

I would agree. This game took Mulkey out the equation. We often win games because of her preparation and her coaching. She didn't really get to do either, and she wasn't able to fully implement herself into the game. She knows that should have won, and that they almost still did. There are other issues that need to be worked out, but there is also an understanding that has to be had here regarding the perfect storm of issues that came against a well coached team. Had this been Kansas, we would likely not be having this conversation. It's the way the chips fell. Win out and we still win the conference by like four games. Back to work. This team has a tremendous ceiling, just need a little bit of routine for them to hit their stride.

I am sure it is frustrating to CKM to start and stop. To not have all players available and to not be able to practice as you know your team needs. But I just wonder how the players feel? My own 2 teenage kids have have sports seasons interrupted by Covid and seasons ended abruptly. I know that both of them just want to play.

Geno is correct about the need for the tournament dollars. It is important to remember that over 90% of the revenue flows through the NCAA to the conferences and member institutions.Deficits in most athletics departments will be huge if the MBB tournament isn't played this year.

I doubt it took him a day to figure it out. Anyone with half a clue about NCAA finances understood in mere minutes.

This is not a big deal. But coaches have to learn not to make controversial comments following an upset loss. Filter twice then, stay on script. Media just waits to see a little blood, then pounces and blows any little comment out of proportion. To lose your filter is to be used.

CKM is no dummy. Make the comments preemptively, before the game, and if you lose like we did, you've provided yourself cover, and if you win, what a miracle worker to overcome stacked odds. Not at all a dumb strategy.

"The answer is this: The season will continue on. It's called the almighty dollar," Mulkey said after the Lady Bears lost 75-71 to Iowa State in Waco, Texas, ending the longest current home-court winning streak in Division I women's basketball at 61 games.

I'm not sure if Kim made the statement before or after the loss but if that is the narrative that ESPN is putting out there then we know what people around the country are buying.

She actually made the statement before and after the game, if you believe Carolyn Peck. She was discussing Kim's comments the next day during her call of the Texas A&M game. She commented on the 'wisdom', or lack there of, concerning the statement. Then she specifically pushed back on the idea that this was just a post game 'poor me' statement saying..."Kim Mulkey made the exact same comment to me before the game."
Nevertheless, it was heard and reported after the game. Sadly, in the world today, perception trumps reality.

I think Mulkey was speaking mostly out of frustration. She was going into one of the biggest games of the year with a team that had not practiced or played in 2 weeks and missing key pieces. It was a natural human reaction even if it wasn't necessarily the wisest thing to say. We should never forget that she is not afraid to voice her opinions. We also should remember that she was just getting over a COVID quarantine and still recovering from the illness.

I agree. Interesting that BU has deleted her exact quote from the "official" transcript. Sooo, it was never said...I guess. Move along, nothing to see here.

247sports...Baylor must have not liked the response from Coach Mulkey as they redacted that statement from the files they shared with media members. A Baylor official simply said, "What's in the zoom presser folder is what you got."

Very curious. Some people will make something out of it, I won't. It's clear that Baylor wants to forget it ever happened & I would not be surprised if Mulkey felt the same way.
