Please raise your hand if you have ever hired a Women's Basketball coach. I have, several times

I will wait to see how many hands are raised.

This is a good hire. I read the resume of each possible candidate and I picked her as having maturity and experience to handle a post Kim situation as well as being a possible great BU fit as a coach and a person.

If Collen chooses to bring on her husband as an assistant coach, she can allocate him as a 3rd assistant [title and pay]. This choice would give her a highly experienced bench coach while offering 1st & 2nd assistant titles and pay to the recruiters [who normally are slotted at 2nd and 3rd assistant (titles and pay)].

Based upon MR's comments on financial commitments, that allows Coach Cullen the ability to make two home run hires.

She could simply use him as an unpaid analyst for scouting. Either way, the marriage offers some nice perks.

For anyone who prefers facts to rumors......

Tom Collen [Coach Nikki Collen's husband] was an Assistant Coach at Arkansas when Sytia Messer was a freshman & sophomore.

So he has known her for 26 years.

Thought that nugget might prove useful.
Please sweet little baby Jesus in all our wonderous glory let us keep Sytia on the staff.
She was a noted prospect for the job and got passed over. Pretty humiliating to stay now, don't you think? She'll be fine. There's a Lear45 just waiting to come get her. We'll see what she does. Never know.
Money helps heal those wounds rather quickly. We definitely have the money to pay more than LSU and she wouldn't have to uproot her home life and move.
She will be leaving. That is a big loss for Baylor. And a big gain for where she is going. Bet you'll never guess where?

At least you didn't say she has a PhD in X's and O's

Well, WNBA, 2018 COY, somewhat successful in college ranks. I guess I can see the upside of style of play being enticing (WNBA) to the kids and hopefully, recruits.

Recruiting... I'm a little nervous. Will it be Wednesday, at the earliest, of finding out if Messer and Brock are retained? I guess we still don't really know of positive aspect until before Conference play in Jan, 2022.
No on Messer.

I am excited. At first I was like, who is THAT? But once I looked her up I was like, DANG Baylor went out and hired itself a WNBA coach!!! And looking at it deeper, in seeing she was COY her first year in the big leagues??? That's impressive. I understand things sort of blew up after that, so the second and third years I don't know you can hold against her too much. She has great experience as an assistant in college and good overall winning percentage at that level too so she's used to a winning culture.

To me, next year is key. We most likely will have a Final-Four favorite team highly ranked in the pre-season. If we can somehow get to the Final Four next year that will help a lot with recruiting and then she just needs to keep using that Baylor reputation to land talent and maintain the success. Only time will tell if she can maintain what Mulkey built, but I am liking this hire more and more.

Based on how he phrased it, maybe not Baton Rouge but Austin.

The one thing we need to know to determine whether she'll be a good coach:

What's her honest thoughts about the location of the new fieldhouse?

(Too soon?)

She took over a flatlined pro team that hadn't done anything in quite a while. She has also been forced to navigate the political terrain of their former part owner in Georgia.

I'm a little handicapped in having a strong opinion because I know nothing about the WNBA, but this was not a desperation hire. There are a lot of coaches that wanted this job and Mack is very thorough and had no hard deadline. He would have taken several more days or more if didn't think Ot was right. Took much longer for aranda.

I'm confident he wouldn't have pulled the trigger if he didn't think she would represent Baylor well including it's Christian mission.

I can't imagine you can be WNBA coach of the year without knowing how to coach some games. Recruiting will be a question but she has one of the best rosters coming in so if she can have initial success and keep a strong culture recruiting should take care of itself.

Nalyssa's last year next year could be very important. Seems like a relatively high floor and high ceiling on this hire to me.

College Station? Amy Wright did just leave A&M for Oklahoma so there's a vacancy and it's not too far from Waco.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks she's recruiting for the first time. She was an assistant college coach for 14 years, including 6 combined at Arkansas and Louisville. I have no idea how effective she was at it, but it's not like it will be something she's never had to do before.

Building a support staff from scratch that can flat out recruit will be her biggest challenge. She does not have the Texas high school relationships that the other regional head coaches and their support coaches have. She is coming from quite a distance. We will see what she does. I hope she likes to work.

Yes. "Toe the company line...Don't make any waves...Keep your opinions to yourself...Obey and follow...Then, your paycheck clears. And oh! You are following a giant. We are not expecting much. (See paycheck) And try not to have a losing record."

Can't say I think much of this hire. Coaching pros is different from coaching college. Should have hired Sytia Messer.

I doubt that, but we'll see soon enough. If the transfer portal starts filling up, and/or we start having a bunch of decomits, then we'll know what the immediate future holds. I doubt you see season ticket sales jump...I'm a lot less confident in ADMR, than some of you on this site.

I had been one of his defenders on the board until this fiasco reached its zenith about a week and a half or so ago. But following that up with where this appears to be headed, I can't honestly defend the guy anymore.

Just to confirm, did you say Sarah, as in Andrews? If she's staying we're definitely getting in good shape quickly. I'm assuming you saw this on Instagram?

Maybe we could keep a sticky at the top showing the number of current players who have decided to stay with our new head coach...
