Blinn College Ace, Lucas Davenport, Commits to Baylor Baseball
Baylor baseball has received a commitment from Blinn College right-handed pitcher Lucas Davenport.
Davenport was the ace on the National Champion Buccaneers squad, starting 16 games with a 10-2 win-loss record and a 3.75 ERA. The 6-foot-6 rising redshirt sophomore tossed over 103 innings and collected 86 strikeouts while handing out just 23 walks this past season for Blinn.
Head coach Mitch Thompson’s squad desperately needed pitching reinforcements this summer. Davenport is a welcomed addition to a team that had the highest ERA (6.51) in the conference in back-to-back seasons.
The Bears have also earned commitments from JUCO pitchers Jack Kolkhorst (Blinn) and Grayson Murry (Tyler).
Kolkhorst made 21 appearances out of the bullpen for Blinn and struck out 46 batters in 45.2 innings of work. Murry started 12 games for Tyler JC and held a 3.62 ERA across 74.2 frames.
Currently, there are still outstanding MLB Draft questions with high-profile recruit Brayden Bergman and Friday night starter Mason Marriott (Jr.). If both were to play for the Bears next spring, it would be a huge boost to Thompson’s roster.
As for transfer portal exits, Baylor has lost four players: pitchers Collin McKinney (RFr.), Stephen Sepulveda (Fr.) and Jackson Wilkerson (Fr.), as well as designated hitter Zach Mazoch (So.).
