Baylor Baseball Loses Hard-Throwing Righty Brayden Bergman to Transfer Portal

Baylor’s redshirt freshman right-handed pitcher Brayden Bergman has entered the transfer portal, according to his social media.

Bergman appeared in 21 games this season for the Bears and held a 5.64 ERA and a 1.79 WHIP across 22.1 frames. He had struggles with command at times, as he issued 28 free passes, compared to just 23 punchouts, but the hard-throwing righty was difficult for opposing batters to make solid contact against, as he boasted a .215 batting average against, the second-lowest mark on the team.

Bergman made his collegiate debut on March 9, 2025, against Loyola Marymount, but missed the rest of the season with an arm injury. He was an elite prospect coming out of Plano East High School and had serious draft consideration going into the 2024 MLB Draft, but injuries also played a role in him missing time before he got to college.

The move to enter the transfer portal may come as a surprise to some, considering his brother, Caleb, spent the last four years as an outfielder for the Bears and his father, Brett, played at Baylor from 1995-98.

Aside from Bergman, the Bears have lost seven other players to the transfer portal: pitchers Cayden Baker (RFr.), Luke DeVasher (Jr.), Keegan Deihl (Fr.) and Cade Waibel (Jr.), as well as catcher Cash McDade (Fr.) and infielder Robert De La Garza (Jr.). Star shortstop Travis Sanders (RJr.) entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer over the weekend, but he will likely remain in the MLB Draft.
