Baylor Baseball Rounds Out Roster with Charlotte Slugging First Baseman Todd Hudson

Baylor baseball rounded out its 2026-27 roster by adding slugging left-handed first baseman Todd Hudson from Charlotte over the weekend. Hudson is a fifth-year senior and will need a temporary injunction or to win a court case to be eligible this season, similar to Traevon Mitchell, the Baylor football defensive lineman transfer from South Florida.

The 6-foot-6, 230-pound Hudson spent the 2026 season at Charlotte, where he started 50 contests and hit .337 with 10 home runs and 43 RBIs. He posted an OPS of .919 and walked 25 times, along with 40 punchouts.

Before that, Hudson spent the 2025 season at Miami, where he was a teammate of current Bear, Tate DeRias. With the Hurricanes, Hudson batted .259, hit a home run and plated eight runs in 21 games.

Hudson was South Carolina's No. 3 overall prospect in the Class of 2022 and began his career at Liberty, where he initially was a two-way player. On the mound, he threw 61.1 innings over 30 appearances, striking out 45 batters in two years with the Flames. At the plate, he batted .289 across two seasons, totaling 31 extra-base hits and 52 RBIs in 237 at-bats. He hit 11 home runs as a sophomore in 2024.

Baylor’s roster currently sits at 38 players, including 20 newcomers: eight freshmen, seven transfer portal additions and five from junior college. Hudson's addition signals that left-handed pitcher Ethan Calder is no longer seeking a fifth year of eligibility, which is why the roster spot opened.

The Bears lost star slugging first baseman Tyce Armstrong, who broke the single-season program record in home runs (24), to the MLB Draft and needed a replacement. Hudson fits that bill, assuming he’s deemed eligible.e
