This is not nearly as hot a take as you think.

"God bless (nation)" is a valediction expressing the speakers hope.

Some variation of this phrase is found in almost all countries. "God bless (nation)" or "God save (nation)"

The specific phrase of "God bless America" was popularized from a patriotic song written by Irvin Berlin in 1918.

Irvin Berlin was of course a immigrant jew from modern Belarus.

Many other nations and people use similar phrases as official or unofficial slogans/mottos

Brunei (official): With God's guidance!
Croaita (unofficial): God and Croats!
Denmark (official royal motto): God's help, the love of the people, Denmark's strength!
Fiji (official): Fear God and honour the Queen!
El Salvador (official): For God, Union, & Liberty!
Nicaragua (official): In God We Trust!
United Kingdom (official Sovereign's motto): God and my Right. (unofficial mottos) God save the Queen and God save the United Kingdom
Vanuatu (official): In God we stand!

Almost 16 other countries official mention God in their national mottos. And almost all countries have some popular non-official phrase that conveys the same general feeling or intention as "God bless America".

Seems like "God Bless America" would infer God is sovereign over America.

God could bless a nation, curse a nation or not intercede in a nations affairs.

Since he is sovereign over all, the statement seems to imply the asking of
the Blessing of the sovereign God.

It just means people want God's blessing. Don't read anything more into it. That's powerful enough.

Concur. It implies nothing more unless you're just reaching to create an issue out of it. If I say "God bless Susan," does that imply I have some kind of dilemma regarding the dual sovereignty of God and Susan? Of course not. It just means I am asking God to bless Susan, whatever the very broad parameters of that may be. I'm sure many of us do this for our loved ones every day. It can likewise be done for a group of people.

" In the biblical sense, if you give me your blessing, you irreversibly convey into my life not just something of the beneficent power and vitality of who you are, but something also of the life-giving power of God, in whose name the blessing is given". Frederick Buechner
