The thing is that people seem to miss the point that companies aren't truly supporting gays, lesbians, etc. They are just doing it to try to gain customers. There are plenty who are saying that the event was "not so bad" and "voluntary" and other defenses... but I've not seen any that have said what you just said... so yeah... they are all freaks.

I have never said all LGBTQ people are freaks (though I acknowledge others feel different). Your post seems to be classic "whataboutism", which is neither helpful or altogether applicable in this context.

The difference, to me, is the messaging around what we have exposed here. I know of few/none who would champion flipping off the camera with a FJB flag in the background as a 10 year old (myself included). However, I can think of many who would and do support bringing children to drag shows.

I think this illustrates the fundamental chasm in the LGBT+ movement, between the actual gay and lesbian people who want to live, love who they love, and be left alone (all positions I can't find fault with and have similar feelings about w/r/t my own life and family), and the neo-gay (I am making that a term), post-modern LGBTQ+ advocate that accepts nothing less than full adoration and affirmation as "support".

I would like to see a single mainstream media outlet that will defend the picture posted above... good luck finding one.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of news stories out there defending the mentally ill, strip tease act for children that happened in Dallas.

The thing is that people seem to miss the point that companies aren't truly supporting gays, lesbians, etc. They are just doing it to try to gain customers. Which is why they only change their logo for this month, don't change it in places it will anger customers, and will change it back next month.

It has nothing to do with my support on not supporting them.

Well, I can tell you. I got a text from probably the biggest BU fan on the planet, who is gay,(doesn't practice) condemning this non-sense to the highest degree. As mentioned earlier, I live just adjacent to the "Gayborhood", so I'm very familiar with the community and have never encountered anything like this. I've been to many drag shows in my day (much, much younger) and that is fine if adults want to do that. I'm much, much more concerned about the parents that brought these children to a freaking drag show. Who are these people? It's not that the "queers" are grooming as several have said, I'm more worried about parents who think this is ok. Talk about poor, poor parenting!!!! I have several gay friends that I just love and would never, ever refer to them as "freaks". They are very productive members of society and are very successful in many different careers. There are extremes in most places in life and the militant gayness is off putting to me , to be sure. Just be who you are and get on with it. I don't need it all up in my grill. I don't put my sex life up in anyone's grill. Just my take.

Just FYI... this drag show was specifically organized and designed to be for children. It was marketed as an event for kids. It was a strip tease, and the kids were encouraged to put dollar bills in the thongs of the men that were dancing for them. Completely outrageous and disgusting... and yet the media is more interested in the protestors and portraying them as the bad guys.



I agree... the parents were insane to take their kids to this event. Even worse to encourage it and give their kids money to give to the strip tease dancers. Gross.

I bet if this had been a normal strip bar, the parents would have been arrested and the kids taken into CPS custody.

I think what most moderate folks are hoping for and would be mollified by is for average, normal gay folks to condemn this kind of insanity. I realize the "Brandon" photo was juvenile whataboutism, but it is telling: if there was a event where kids were taking to a strip club, lots of people would condemn it. We need to return to some level of sanity where condemnation of taking kids to a strip club is not automatically labeled ABCD-phobic.

While it is creepy these groomers would get off on this, but the problem ultimately lies with the parents.
