Police in Leicester drafted in riot squads and mounted units to quell ongoing disorder and violence between youths from the Hindu and Muslim communities.
Fifteen people were arrested on Sunday night after rival gangs, many wearing masks, gathered in the east of the city.
On Saturday night, there were large-scale disturbances as violence flared following an unplanned protest.
The latest sectarian disorder follows weeks of rising tension that first erupted after the Asia Cup cricket match between India and Pakistan, which was played in Dubai on Aug 28.
Immediately following the match, there were clashes in the Belgrave area of Leicester, which resulted in eight people being arrested. There was further violence on Sep 5 and a total of 27 people were detained for questioning as part of a major police operation to tackle the trouble.
But since then, inflammatory comments and rumours posted on social media have inflamed tensions, according to the city's mayor.

Officers from neighbouring forces, as well as a specialist mounted unit, were brought in over the weekend to support the operation.
Referring to Sunday's operation, a spokesman for Leicestershire Police said: "Officers became aware of groups of young men gathering on Sunday afternoon in the North Evington area of the city.
"Officers spoke to them and took steps, including putting in place a temporary police cordon, to minimise harm and disturbance to communities."
The spokesman added that special stop and search powers had also been introduced to keep the peace in the city.
He went on: "The impact this disorder is having on our local communities is not acceptable. We will not tolerate violence, disorder or intimidation in Leicester and we continue to call for calm and dialogue. Our police operations and investigations continue with rigour and at scale."

Sir Peter Soulsby, the mayor of Leicester, said that he was baffled by the disturbances, insisting the city was normally "very peaceful" with good relations between different communities.
He blamed people posting videos and comments on social media for distorting the facts and inflaming the tensions.
Sir Peter said: "I've seen quite a selection of the social media stuff which is very, very, very distorting now and some of it just completely lying about what had been happening between different communities."
He went on: "I have talked to a lot of community leaders and they are doing what they can to bring Leicester to normal because in Leicester, normal is very good relations between people of different faiths.
"They and I, while being baffled by it, are also very disturbed by it. But I think we are all very confident Leicester is resilient enough to be able to return to normal relations very soon."
Sir Peter also warned that people from other parts of the country, including Birmingham, had been travelling to Leicester to take part in the disorder.

This is the really disgusting part. They are presumably citizens and legal residents. The democratically elected officials ARE the community representatives and there should be only ONE COMMUNITY.

It took 300 years for Britain to develop "one culture" after the Danelaw. Even had a Danish king. Canute.
Eventually, the movement of peoples stops, and one culture emerges. The only question is how long it takes to happen. In America, it's typically been two generations. Today, it's taking somewhat longer than that for some classes of immigrant. But it still will happen.
The only question is.....the process of melting pot gets awfully messy if too many ingredients are in the pot. How much "mess" do the "already assimilated" have to put up with before they demand a stop to the inflows. Inevitably, it does get to that point. We are still a few years away from having political will to drastically restrict inflows. But the longer these illegals keep pouring in, the quicker we will get there.

The Muslim Community in Peterborough was praised for how they aided the police and their involvement in capturing the murderers
Leicester is a multicultural city well known for having a large Indian and Pakistani community that usually live together in peace, something set off some young men and it obviously escalated to something that got wildly out of hand, but please, tell me more about this situation happening in the country that i live in, in a City i have visited many times and have Family members living there
