The internet is poison for young people.

It's hard enough to handle once your mental and psychic personality is set….impossible to handle when you are in the developmental stage.

Praying for Caroline, praying for her mom and dad, and praying for all young kids out there in America today.

For years a couple of dads and I have helped lead a small group of young men at our church. They're juniors now, and were once happy kids. Between the pandemic and school shut downs, social media, and drug use, they're now a mess - with 4 of the 10 treated for depression. Two of the boys whose parents thought it would be a good idea to withdraw them from in-person school and stop allowing them to attend small group during the pandemic have attempted suicide, one successful. The first hung himself in the backyard. The mom is a single mom, and I along with another dad had to come cut the rope out of the tree. The second has tried to overdose, hang himself in his closet, and slit his wrists. It's terrible.

It is scary. Sometimes there are hardly any or no warning signs. Frightening as a parent.

I'm sure this will be met with glee on social media from all those "loving" and "tolerant" regressives.

I remember people dunking on Ted Cruz when his daughter made a TikTok video saying she disagreed with his views.

You have to be a real POS to use a teenager (their teenage child) to get back at politicians you disagree with.

I won't even entertain it but I'm sure there will be tweets and posts blaming Ted Cruz's politics for this too.

The beautiful 15 year old daughter of one of my oldest friends has repeatedly slashed her arms with knives and razors .

Apparently such self mutilation is not all that unusual for jr high and high school girls here in northern Colorado.

Totally beyond my comprehension.

Pretty easy to see what changed around 2012.

FIGURE 1. Indicators of poor mental health among U.S. girls and young women, 2001-2018a

aStandard deviations are within means at the generational level, not at the individual level, and thus should not be used to calculate individuallevel effect sizes.

bSource: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Suicide rates among 12 to 14yearold girls.

cSource: Spiller et al. (14). Selfpoisoning among 13 to 15yearold girls.

dSource: Twenge et al. (11). Major depressive episode among 14 to 15yearold girls.

eSources: Keyes et al. (8) and Twenge et al. (9). Depressive symptoms among eighthgrade girls.

I'm going to sound like a nut here, but parents, keep the smart phone away from your kids as long as possible.

You don't sound like a nut at all.

Every piece of data we have shows a massive increase in depression, anxiety, and suicide in young people (especially girls) starting around the time of the internet revolution…and picking up radical speed since the I-Phone brought constant never ending internet connection to young kids and the invention of social media platforms.

For many young people the only off line time is when they sleep…and of course it goes without saying most of what happens in teen internet culture is toxic.

Wow, I didn't realize teen suicide had gone up that much. I'm not sure you can directly blame phones, but you could probably get pretty close with enough data.

It's the internet that is the problem.

The I-Phone is just part of the problem since it's the vector for transmitting the internet to young people 24hrs a day-7 days a week-365 days a year.

No breaks, no timeouts, no moderation, and no perspective…

Don't care how much we disagree I can't imagine losing my teenager to suicide. Hopefully with counseling and love she will be ok. Incredibly sad.

Want to go deeper into the internet effect you can clearly see how the spread of transgenderism is at least in large part a internet spread phenomenon.

As soon as young people get the I-Phone in their hands and start falling down gender ideological rabbit holes…the numbers begin to skyrocket.

The internet is also hitting religion hard. Massive rise in atheism and agnosticism.

Mormons (LDS) are a good example of this trend:

None of my kids has a phone (college daughter does finally). Almost every parent that figures that out asks how I do it and that their kids' phones are the source of all their troubles. My kids dont even complain about it anymore - they see what is happening to all their friends.

My niece is a Baylor senior. One of her best Baylor friends committed suicide around Thanksgiving. There is a chance that it may have been an accidental overdose but probably not. It is hard to imagine any Baylor senior taking their own life given the opportunity that awaits them. I was pleased to hear that Baylor's response was really impressive. The chaplain and counselors reached out to each of her close friends for one on one conversations. Professors moved tests and project due dates to accommodate traveling to the viewing. Today is my niece's 22nd birthday. So very proud of her.

1. Suicide among the LGBTQ community are out of proportion to their cohort. Really, really sad.

2. Parental and peer and societal and ecclesiastical pressures can be overwhelming negative to a teen. The threat of hell by non denimations is also a source of self revulsion.
YET I am repeated reviled because I do not think it is a sin. Churches which are supposed to be centers of healing and good news are instead sources of hate.

3. Talk about suicide if you suspect someone of idealization of it. Educate yourself.

4. Go to Safetalk for more information on teen suicide.

Broadly speaking, it does not matter whether you think homosexual conduct is a sin or not. It matters what the Creator says and how he designed us. The fact is the body and mind are not made for homosexual conduct.

No man can ever meet the social, psychological, and emotional needs that a woman was designed to meet. Seeking a man to fill the place of woman leads to all sorts of mental and emotional problems. The same is true for women who seek other women to fill the place a man was designed to minister to. The physical problems associated with receptive anal sex and promiscuity are well documented. You can call it a sin or not. The Bible calls it a sin and the natural results that follow from the conduct demonstrate that we should follow God's design for marriage and sexuality.

Suicide rates among service members is also vastly higher than general population. Is that because of the church too?

Just to be clear, cutting, self harm is not a suicide attempt. Can it lead to suicide, yes. But it is not the same.

Hopefully Ted and Heidi can get their daughter the help she needs.

Suicide is up all across the board in modern America.

Its an epidemic that is NOT limited to people of one sexuality, race, gender, or region of the country.

Trying to tie high LGBTQ suicides to Christian moral belief (and Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist belief as well) is just a blood libel and a low political tactic.

LGBTQ also have higher drug usage rates and higher mental illness rates than the general population..is that all the fault of Christians?

Social media is poison for kids. I blame parents here.

Some parents at my sons school post about their kid on social media every time they take a *****

just another sign of what happens when culture defines itself as the enemy. When you are a citizen of the world, you are a citizen of nowhere. Psychological homelessness....

. It's not a rebuttal. The lgbtq youth cohort commit more suicides by percentage of youth than straights

LGBTQ are more than four times as likely to attempt suicide than their peers (Johns et al., 2019; Johns et al., 2020).

". Suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people aged 10 to 24 (Hedegaard, Curtin, & Warner, 2018) and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth are at significantly increased risk." The Trevor Report

4x more likely.

Why are lgbtq Youth prone to drug and alcohol abuse b?
Because of reject from people like you, their parents, the church and Friends.
