Had a knife, stabbed someone else and was making threats. Should they have hugged it out?
Our vibrations were getting nasty. But why? I was puzzled, frustrated... Had we deteriorated to the level of dumb beasts?

This one is a wash for me. I'd have to see the video. Most people who try to stab vops get shot, but a guy without legs? Can't the cops just move out of the way? Hit him with a brick? Ten rounds is required to subdue a double amputee? But given that he had just stabbed someone else, not much sympathy.

The question isn't whether force was required to subdue him, clearly it was. The question is whether *lethal* force was required.

When life is threatened, lethal force is ALWAYS required. Always.

taser

Put a broom handle thru his wheels..

Use a chair as protection from knife attack and tip him over..

Wait him out..

Probably a dozen more ways to end it without loss of life

I have to agree.

I am pretty pro-cop.

But in situations like this I can't see a good reason not to just pepper spray the hell of of the guy...taser him...and just wait him out.

Apparently he got out of his wheelchair and walked on his stumps toward the cops. Had already stabbed someone else doing the exact same thing.

Huntington Park police said in a statement that officers responded to a report of a stabbing victim on the afternoon of Jan. 26. The victim, who had sustained a collapsed lung and internal bleeding, said he was attacked by a Black man in a wheelchair, police said.

"The suspect dismounted his wheelchair, ran to the victim without provocation, and stabbed him in the side of the chest with a 12" butcher knife," police said in the statement. "The suspect then ran back to the wheelchair and fled the scene in the wheelchair."

Officers later found Lowe nearby carrying a large knife and ignoring their commands, the statement said.

This is a tough situation.

You had a man who obviously had no regard for others or his own life, but he is in a wheelchair, so his disabilty
comes into the situation as well.

When you ram a 12" butcher knife into someone you plan to kill them. The victim is lucky to be alive.

They had already tried tazering him. I suppose they could have cornered him and waited him out, but he is getting more sympathy than the average person who blantantly tries to murder another, because of his disability.

You can't shoot an unarmed man, but there's nothing that says you can't shoot an unlegged one.

Cops are just dumbasses sometimes. I don't give a crap if he had a knife. If you aren't smart enough to figure out how to subdue a guy with no legs then you have no business being a cop. Just plain stupid.

The video shows a guy who was able to walk on two (abbreviated) legs pretty well. Large knife plainly visible. He was retreating in first portion of video, but second angle shows cop retreating. So apparently the perp turned and advanced toward cops with a large knife, which is a deadly force situation.

Cops no doubt have body cans and will show more details.
